United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Mauritius Blue

I used purpose made deflectors bought off ebay on my MY2008 FL2. It was quite easy as the headlight had a small dimple to show whare the deflector fitted. Very Happy

I now have a MY2013 with DRLs, there is no dimple to show where the deflector has to go. Confused Has anyone with a MY2013 FL2 fitted any purpose made deflectors, if so appreciate if you can let me know how they fit!

Like you I have no 'tourist lever' inside the headlamp so I'm having to fit beam deflectors, but there is no marking on the on the headlight.
I'd also be interested in an answer.

Remove headlights, flick tourist lever. Handbook page 32. Mind you, it's quite a procedure and I didn't bother last time I went abroad. Just wound the lights right down and left it at that.

Forgot that post. Shall have to take mine off sometime now just to see whether or not I've got the lever!

AA ones have full diagrams to show where to put them. Just to right of main lamp essentially. Get down on your knees and align. Wot I did Thumbs Up * GONE. GS TD4 Manual MY2013. Orkney Grey with privacy, cold and clearview packs, armrests (a must!) and a spoiler.

When I changed from a MY 07 to a MY 13 I asked if it had the same adjusting lever and was assured that it did (by the salesman). It doesn't but it also has the Bi-xenon signature headlights.

Spoke to the service dept. who say that these have a flat beam pattern with no kick up to the left. As such they don't need any adjustment or masking for driving on the right.

I have driven in France and Spain but didn't use the lights much. When I did no one flashed me and I am sure the French would have let me know if I was dazzling them. GONE - '07 TD4 GS manual Zermatt Silver

Landrover dealers and Landrover technical are not singing from the same hymn sheet.

My dealer said MY13 halogen models kick up to the left, I asked Mike of LR customer services and he said the tech guys says they are flat beam. I asked again at the dealers and they said LR are wrong so I asked Mike again and he said they are wrong.

In the end I called in at a friend's garage and he put the beam tester on, it clearly indicated that the lights kicked up to the left and he advised me to lower them by the thumbwheel inside the car, which I did and I never got to drive in the dark anyway.

I won't bother in the future, it's only a requirement that you do not dazzle other drivers so if I drive only in daylight I have broken no law. If I do decide to drive in the dark at some future date abroad, I'll wind down the lights and take it slower.

The problem arises when driving in (eg) Scandinavian countries and now Switzerland where lights are required at all times. If you do not have DRLs then you must use dipped beam. If set wrong it is possible to dazzle.

Dipped beam also required when driving in the rain in German towns, if memory serves...
I need to sort this out, as it's OK to wind them down usually, but with three people and a LOT of luggage they're going to be right down anyway! Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

I found this article written for British Forces, Germany regarding headlights.

http://www.headlamp-shop.com/wp-content/pd...ations.pdf

From what it says my headlights are for UK use only and despite what the servce dept. said are not suitable for left and right hand use.

The handbook isn't any help as it just refers to the adjusting lever (which I assume is for halogen lights only) and makes no mention of ay other option. So from this I am still not clear if I need beam adjusters and where I should stick them if I do. GONE - '07 TD4 GS manual Zermatt Silver

OK, I finally got round to checking. MY13 with halogen lights and no, there is NO "tourist handle as shown in the handbook. Good old handbook (and it should be the correct one because downloaded from TOPIx, dealer having failed to give me one.) Yes the lights DO have the kick up to the nearside, so they DO need to be masked. However the new lights no longer have a dot at the centre spot so that you can line up the masks.
And if Mike at Land Rover can't find the answer, what chance have we? Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Exactly, Mike in fairness was only passing on what he had been told but still a poor show.
I have DRL's so that covers me in places that demand them and for the rest I will lower the lights if needed by the thumbwheel. As you say the MY13 headlamp lenses are now clear with no markings at all for correct positioning of beam deflectors.

AA deflectors have a diagram so easy to place them where required despite lack of moulded dot on lens. Works fine for my MY 2013 with halogens. No tourist lever as you correctly state. Might buy some EGR headlight protectors and fit the deflectors onto them. Then just clip on when going abroad. Plus lights protected from rogue stones Thumbs Up * GONE. GS TD4 Manual MY2013. That's helpful - I'll look into getting the AA ones. I've put through another query to Mike at LR asking if he can sort this oput definitively - it really is something they should be working on, at least as regards getting the handbook sorted out. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

It appears from the EGR website that they only make protectors up to MY11. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
