no beeping on blinker or parking.

Hi all,

So having had this fl2 se i6 for around 1½ year, I began to notice something is a little off.

When I use the blinkers, left or right, ther is no tik, tok, tik, tok...
When I reverse, the parkig system, front and rear, does not make a sound. I did change the module, and it seems to work, but no sound.

So, where does the sound come from?
Is it via all speakers, or is it a small speaker hidden somewhere?
Or something else?

I'd really like to solve it

All ideas and suggestions are most appreciated.

Kind regards,
Redfox.

The manual says that parking sensors sound via the speakers front and rear respectively. The indicators, headlamp and seatbelt warning sounds come from a sounder embedded in the instrument binnacle.

The indicator sound is definitely behind the instrument panel. It's a large hollow space behind it.

I put acoustic insulation in there & the indicators were quieter. Actually sounded more upmarket, less tinny.

Something I learnt after 10 years. Laughing If you want to increase or decrease the beeping volume while parking/reversing etc. While the beeping is sounding turn the hi-fi volume knob up or down. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

No beeping, no matter the volume.
No beeping when using blinkers.
No beeping when parking. Front or rear.

Where more precisely does that small speaker sit in behind the dash?

Cheers,
Redfox.

No idea. The manual says it’s part of the instrument package. I’ve read of people who’ve changed it but it isn’t shown as a discrete part. They’ve probably found markings when they disassembled it and bought a replacement.
As I said, the parking sensor beeps are supposed to come through the entertainment speakers and as others have said, they’re volume is raised and lowered by the volume control for the radio/cd player. Get up close to something and turn on the sensors and turn the volume up.

Will do, and report back.

To the best of my knowledge, the circle light cable stuff works, as the other elements on that system are working, say gps for example. I have had both front and rear fenders off, and sensors off, wires off, but couldn't see anything unusual, like a defect cable or the like.

Kind regards,
Redfox.

There is a fuse FB10 in rear fuse box according to this post.

There is a Park Assist Module, have you any OBD DCT Fault Codes in system?

https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/park-assist-module.367818/

The only relevant post on indicators seems to say the sounder is used for other warning functions aswell.
Unfortunately, as is sometimes the case, the OP did not bother to let us know the outcome, a pity as this forums is built on knowledge gained personally and collectively.

I've now tried to scan the car with my neighbours tool. It can only scan engine, hvac and sirs. SO no good.
It now beeps one long beep when ignition is turned on. I have ordered a new parking control module.
Meanwhile, I changed the button panel up front, and it's can now blink with the led in the activate/deactivate sensors rear-button. It blinks like 3 times. Other than that; no response.
Then we'll see.
I'll report back.

Small update:

I've now installed a new parking control module. No change. Still no response from any parking, forward or rearward. Only a long beeeeeeep, when I start the car and a blinking for 3 seconds on the button that decouple the rearward parking sensors when towing.

No change at all.

I don't have a proper scanner.
Which one to buy?

I guess a proper tester is needed to get further? As I mentioned, I've already had both front and rear fender off, and carefully looked at the wiring. No cuts or other funny stuff. So can all 8 sensors be dead?

Kind regards,
Redfox.

ps: On a secondary note, since our Freelander 2 have now done 251000 kilometers with no hick ups (well apart from all the modules that were dead when we bought the car and all the other little things that break down on Land Rovers - but no worries), I've now bought a pile of parts so I can install new parts for the coolant thermostat and the thermostat housing, gaskets, and the small hose next to it and fittings, as well as a service kit for the vacuum pump, new aux belt, belt tensioner, extra wheel, the bearings etc, as well as the funny coupler from the alternator, rollers, belt etc. as well as a new waterpump. and a lot of seals, plus the inlet manifold seals (the green ones).
I also bought parts to undo the drive shaft, so I can remove completely the Haldex 3 and take it completely apart and also wash the coupling plates inside. Time to make it last and keep on working as intended, before anything goes south Wink All original parts as I don't dare buying china plastic parts.

Man! Some of the parts are nla, and Land Rover do not intend to make an extra batch, so hard to get parts for our cars... Even Volvo have them no longer available.

But! First I have to watch LeMans this weekend.

The long beep when starting is an indication that one or more of your parking sensors has a problem.

I am not sure if I can say more as I am unsure when you had the the system working.

Most systems on the FL2 are monitored so you should get some clue from fault codes if the system was originally working.

Try not to change things without checking symptoms, and then only one at a time whilst trying to keep systems as original as possible, otherwise you will introduce additional faults. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
