Engine Vibration

2013 2.2 diesel vibrates and rattles as it revs stationary, vibrates through the body shell at the front of the car. Where do I look for the cause. Do Engine Mountings fail or will it be the clutch? No metal in the oil filter, Injectors? Any ideas chaps? Many Thanks.

Thanks Ian, I have had a look and it does not appear to be too bad, the main area appears to be around the Clutch end of the block.

How about something loose underneath?

Exhaust or Shielding.

Are you saying no vibration when you accelerate or moving?

Trying to rule out misfiring, or transmission, or indeed suspension. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Looking at the engine from the front of the car, there is an engine mount on the left hand side. Mine looked OK until I changed it. Top casting was resting on the lower casting when stationary, but not when driving, so the noise went away until you stopped at lights.

You have to remember I did 185,000 miles in my FL2, so it was mileage related, but as some are now quite old I can imagine that age is going to be a factor. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Gently jack the engine up from underneath with the engine running, just enough to take a load off the mounts using a block of wood between the jack and the engine. No-where near enough to lift the car, just an inch - or 25mm for the young ones.

It's and easier test than playing with a pry bar if you don't know how much lift/play is too much. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
