Things change

Had to get some money out of the cash point today. Do you remember when you got cash from the bank and all the notes faced the same way, not now. Funny things we remember.

We have plastic notes, they sort of can stick together, so it's better they are facing different directions so you can see each note, so you are less likely not hand over too many without realising it. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

That’s a good point, I never thought of that. There again I am not normally allowed that much money. 🤣. It was just a thought as I stood at the machine. The Mrs usually puts a paper clip on each £100 so she can see what is what.

Wifey must be hiding most of your larger notes!

Australia has 104 billion in circulation, virtually all of it in $50 & 100 (largest) notes. So about $4,000 per capita. Most of it does not see the light of day. Also basically about 10% of people use cash these days. & also take children out of the equation. Some people are have an awful lot under the mattress.

When notes come back into the system their serial numbers are recorded.

Check under your mattress!

I did once buy a train ticket in 1987 in Germany & asked & apologised for using such a large note. It was not an issue as they had plenty of change. DM1000!

When I bought the currency in Australia the bank didn't have many small notes, but had plenty of large ones! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

🤣🤣. I don’t get that much pocket money. Cash is still needed like in rural campsites where there is poor signal for card machine. Also been to shows when the signal goes down and the stall holders can only take cash as no card machine working.

On my recent trip to Brisbane, to visit my daughter, I was surprised at just how many shops and cafes have signs saying the credit card cost will passed onto the customer as a surcharge and are very happy to receive cash.
Being from Yorkshire I was delighted to be able to offer cash and save a bit.

Also love the fact that in Oz staff get paid enough to not need tips, unlike in the USA. Jules

Yorkshire men do not give Tips. They have zips on their pockets, and Scotsmen are even tighter. Its general folk-lore.
