I’ve just sold my Discovery 3 an 05, just had to get a little hole in back of of chassis as it slipped off a Jack onto axle stand and put a 2” rip into box section
Ended up cutting about 12” out as chassis was just falling apart inside ,looked great from outside but rotting from the inside out
Sold car to guy that’s going to use it on a camping site on the NC500 Big Cry Big Cry

Alex, I've always fancied one of the D3/4's
but having research on line, I'm amazed how many
have rotten sills under that nice shiny plastic cover Shocked DAVE.

Hi Jack Frost, appreciate its been a couple months but couldn't resist the urge to reply as recently my FL2 2010 had a comment from the garage on its last MOT that there was rear subframe rust. Living so close to the sea in Cornwall its almost normal for car's to suffer to a degree here!

Here are some pictures of my attempt to grind/wire brush and treat the corrosion on both the rear and front subframe.

After its first coat of converting the rust, use two coats!

Then applied waxoyl

I did not get as many pictures of the front frame but was pretty similar to the rear

Not pictured but I also used bilt hamber dynax s50 to get into all the nooks where I could stuff the Lance into

Most of the time was spent prepping and grinding back as much rust as possible then using the bilt hamber hydrate 80 to convert the rust. I plan to waxoyl every other year as a preventative measure Thumbs Up

Not too expensive of a job if you have the time and space? pair of wheel ramps £25 waxoyl £15 rust treatment £30. Wire brushes etc £5 and a load of elbow grease free! Although a good cordless drill and an angle grinder makes the job much easier.

when can you do mine ???

Only joking, had the MOT this morning, PASS, but was advised to give it a good wash underneath. Problems of living on a farm, you carry the muck everywhere.

I did ask the inspector to check the rear subframe, his reply was that it was "all good".

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Loire Blue

I must admit, i spent a lot of time on my old 2008 HSE rustprrofing it, and am now doing the same on my 2014.

I recently did the front wheelarches and front subframe (car was stripped for clutch replacement) and will shortly be doing the back arches, sills, subframe etc. Prevention is better than cure Very Happy

I really like my freel, and despite have 164,000 miles on the clock, id like to see how many miles it reliably goes on for Smile
