Mines around that sort of money too. At an independent.

I just got two Quotes today for my Landrover SD4 2013, using Landrover parts quotes came in at £660 to £730 and they not main dealer!!!!

'Local' LR dealers quoted similar top end figure as compared to my Indy at over £800. Bit disappointed, had a word with Indy who called both dealers and they established that the quoted prices didn't include replacement water pump; seems the policy at both was to call when car was on the ramps suggesting "sir might want to consider replacing . . . ." That would then bring prices up in the same ball park. Indy was also told that dealers were getting big discounts on parts from LR thereby enabling them to reduce costs and draw service customers back, which they can't obviously afford to do. Regardless Indy has compromised on their costs and am looking at £800 in a couple of weeks. Rather trust them with the work

Ouch Surprised I had the cambelt and water pump supplied and fitted for £420 last year at my local independent/specialist.

Thoughts on parts...

There is a significant difference in the price of a genuine LR cam belt and water pump kit compared to a non LR branded kit... is it worth paying the extra for the LR parts?

I am thinking here of supplying the parts but having my local trusty garage do the work and MOT with the due A service then being carried out by a main dealer or indie with service records access to maintain the history.

ETA
Just looked up a reasonably local main dealer price for 7 year A service including cam belt but seemingly excluding water pump... £719. That is on the 3+ Land Rover Service and Maintenance programme.

As an owner of a Land Rover older than three years, you will benefit from transparent and competitive service & maintenance pricing. Our expertly Trained Technicians know your Land Rover like no one else and will only use Land Rover Genuine Parts with a 2-year parts warranty

JLR do not make cam belts or water pumps - they buy them from other manufacturers . So why not buy from a good source and not suffer the JLR price hike.

JLR also do not make brake pads, wiper blades , light bulbs, bearings etc etc Jules

I really don’t get why you all pay through the nose for all these LR parts and their extortionate servicing costs.
Must be a more money than sense thing.
When you look at it - your FR2 is nothing more than a Ford underneath, which any garage will work on quite happily.
You could source Ford or any other PSA parts which are exactly the same as the LR parts.
If you think your manufacturer service history is going to be worth significantly more when sale time comes up on a vehicle which at best now is 5 or 6 years old, think again.
My 2013 HSE Lux now has 150,000 miles on the clock, not been near the dealer since I bought it at 60,000 miles, yet it’s been properly serviced with oil change every 10,000 miles and recent cambelt, which I supplied the parts - Gates kit from eBay with water pump for less than £100 and fitted by a local garage/ mot centre for £100.
If and when that gets sold it would only be a question of have you got service history - yes, full.
Not that it’s going anywhere anytime soon, still a perfectly reliable car.

My pleasure Trev.

Same offer to anyone else who wants to borrow a set of cambelt timing tools, just drop me a pm.

I would rather someone was using them than sitting in my tool box in the garage.

Cheers
