I'm not sure the Ineos Grenadier will be such a big hit in the UK.
Anyone remember the Santana PS10 ? Looks like a Land Rover 110, same wheelbase, great 2.8 Iveco diesel engine etc...........

...........but it's NOT a Land Rover. Hence why it wasn't bought by people wanting to own a real Defender despite the old Land Rover connection, as by the time the PS10 arrived, that partnership had been ended since 1983.

So far, from what I've seen on the net, the Grenadier looks as close to a Defender as the PS10. albeit in SWB or 90 guise.

Defender Hype vs Defender Reality

To paraphrase - Exceptional offroader until you have an issue.

So your suspension airbag sensor fails during your overland tour - you even have a spare sensor - but you've got to get it to a JLR dealership to make it work.

Coils is the only way forward if the Defender wants to regain the credibility of the old Landrovers.

Also why cant all the vehicle electronic devices simply be plug-n-play like my PC and laptop ??

Interesting Video,
only problem, I still am in the dark about the differences in African and Australian Mosquito Nets.
(please can someone help me as I have been worrying all night)

PS From what I did understand the New Defender is the 'Child of the D4' and not the Old Defender. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 76k+ miles) (MY2015)

I just don't get it!!
We know the old Defender became obsolete in the modern world! for various reasons,
now I know there has been issues with previous models from LR.....BUT probably no
more than any other motor manufacturer,
I also know some of those models, the owners have been very happy with them and not suffered with those issues

Now it's a new model,
if it was the same as the old Defender, we would moan about all the same problems that the old
Defender had (and yes there was a lot)........So guy's please why not wait and see as to what it is like in the real world.

New Defender, seen it today at Halewood. Looks absolutely fab in the flesh, super comfy to sit in and plenty room behind the wheel.

Been away so not seen most of this subject before, but for what its worth most of my farming friends have commented that
A-it is too expenisive for farm work and
B-You cannot put any livestock in it as you could in a 90 or 110 and then just hose it out.

So not designed for either farming, construction or serious off road work.
Also not checked the figures but probably will not be capable of towing the same loads as the old 90's and 110's.

whats the various black panels etc on the RHS of the boot J77 ?

If it can be hosed out is there a boot charger socket etc?

we used to drive our 90/110 and Wolf onto the concrete ramps most camps had at the washdown point, park it forwards on the slope and then hose it out, nearly all the water just ran straight through and out the tailgate.

Charge socket on that one and the fuse box.

You canā€™t take the karcher to it but you can wash it all out with a bucket and sponge. Thereā€™s no carpet in the boot so things may rattle a bit without a boot mat. Probably would get away with using the portable rinse system to wash it out.

So far from what Iā€™ve seen Iā€™m pretty pleased with it, especially the 90 itā€™s got the look. I would happily have the 90 commercial, with its white roof and white steels and three a breast seating in the front, it was the star of the show for me.

Tasman Blue is my colour of choice

i would have to agree with you there J77, cant wait to see the pics of yours Thumbs Up

i will have to go to my local dealer to have a nosey when they get a showroom model in.

to be fair i like both the 110 and the 90, IMO LR have a done a great job of the look of this, and the interior looks spot on.

would i buy one ?....... in a heartbeat if i could afford one

is it a comparable replacement for the old Defender.... probably not, but the world is very different these days and they have to meet the market. Most of the new Defenders will basically never go off road or have sheep/haybales/piles of mud & rubble/go deep wading etc etc so they fit the 60% on road/40% off road market perfectly.

ive even seen it written from LR itself that most buyers of the Defender 110 are expected to be replacing a D4 as its the natural progression.
