Plenty of farmers in N Ireland still running late model / end of line defenders although plenty of Japanese crew cabs too. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Australia 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 SE Auto Ipanema Sand

I like it. The first two on the floor I thought looked hideous. The Adventure and Explorer looked good.

White steel wheels - Fantastic! So practical.

Not sure about the Ingenium engine though, by what I've read on this forum.

I built a 90 in D240, steel wheels, off road tyres, roof rails in green with a white roof. About 57K I think. I can wait a few years, not done with my FL2 yet.

Must have that black treatment on the front.

750 quid for a snorkel? I'll wait til Safari do one. MY11 SD4 SE Auto

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Fuji White

Am I right in thinking that the 'Oil Dilution' and other DPF problems are only found in the Transverse mounted engines and not in the Longitudinal mounted engines.

Which would mean the Defender will not have these problems. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

I would think it is more to do with the intrinsic design of the engine’s EGR/DPF system.

I would assume the new bigger six cylinder engines are inginium base design with two more cylinders (although the six seems only to be petrol, so should be fine), it’s the two inline four diesels that need monitoring again I’d think, hopefully with a new installation they may have been able to engineer out any physical restrictions that makes the transverse a problem.

Time will tell. Regards

David

Lovely i6 has now gone, but not me......

Please let me know if anything in my post offends you, as I may wish to offend you again......

As an aside I took a peek under the hood of my DiL’s new D5 while they were visiting recently and I was amazed at the size of the close coupled DPF (I assume thats what it was) it looked like a small dustbin squeezed down the rear side of the engine!

She will be picking up her new Velar in a few weeks, it’ll be interesting to see under the hood on that one..... Regards

David

I rather like the new Defender, apart from two things, the pricing obviously, and the odd looking quarter panels used to break up the window line on the 90. From the inside they seem to be some sort of cubby to hold odds and ends, but they must limit the view out for rear seat passengers. I especially like the jump seat so that 6 can be occasionally carried without needing the longer wheelbase 110 which is a hefty vehicle and I do agree with those that say it will take sales from the Discovery.

But more than that I was encouraged by what Dr Speth said at the launch event, he was at pains to emphasise that there would be “a family” of Defenders and that gives me hope that we’ll see a Defender Sport that will be the real Freelander replacement? Here’s hoping!

The panels can be deleted on the 90, but they are needed if you want a ladder for the roof rack. The 110 though they are part of the structure Thumbs Up 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Isn`t that the Alpine window in the top curve of the roof similar to what the old Defender had?. There looks to be a little round light in the headlining just to the side of it. Thumbs Up
