Australia 2008 Freelander 2 i6 HSE Auto Sumatra Black

Good question.

The info I have here, for latest versions is;

30.16.02 for USA maps, 29th Feb 2016
30.16.03 for Russia/Baltics maps, 15th Feb 2016
30.16.04 for EU maps, 11th Feb 2016
30.16.02 for Middle East maps, 18th Jan 2016
30.16.02 for AUS/NZ maps, Feb 2016

These are the "Media Version Number"

Perhaps the last two digits is something else then... 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

Just checked mine and the numbers are 30 . 12 . 12. So perhaps I have the Mars maps (seems like that when some of the routes are shown)

Hi everyone.
I just bought a late 2012 SD4 HSE with the updated interior. The handbook (yes I read it!!) mentions Navtec as the source of the maps. They're now known as "Here" maps. As follows.....
"This is a licence for your copy of the Navigable Map Database originally made by Navtec Corporation."

They're the same maps that Garmin uses.

The handbook also describes a method of adding your own POI data by using a USB stick with the files in .gpx format. Also what Garmin uses.

So I'm wondering if a Garmin update would do the trick. Whole of Europe costs around £50. http://www.garmin.com/uk/maps/numaps

Anyone tried that before I spend hours getting into it? MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

Updated my SatNav via USB method and checked version and it now says region 04? Can you advise what this is please ?

So what did you buy to do this? Is the update coded somehow to your particular car?

I was wondering if all the owners that wanted to update would do a group buy for an update and share it. Would that work? MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

And another question..........

Has anyone plugged a laptop into the USB port?
The reason I ask is that when I update my Garmin, it's plugged into the laptop and the maps can be transferred to it manually. You can see all the files in the nav's memory and the maps are contained in a file called "gmapsupp". If we could get into the satnav and it has that file it can be replaced with new maps. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

There is an activation code for each map update which is tied to the VIN of your car, so the activaton code for one vehicle will not work on another.

I know a guy who is able to generate the activation codes. You would need to download the maps and copy them onto a USB, then he can provide the code to activate it.

This is not something I do myself, but I can put you in touch with him. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

Hmmm, no. I have a choice of two motorcycle satnavs, both with lifetime updates, so I'll leave it.

They seem to have it bottled up. They're limited in what they can do by Here/Navtec and their licence. I went through all this with Garmin and their "unlock codes" in the early Noughties. There was no way around it. Fortunately they (Garmin) learned a lesson when people didn't update too regularly so they now sell their products with lifetime updates. The car manufacturers need to do the same. Which might just encourage more owners to return to LR for servicing. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

Having posted above.......of course, if someone had the LR memory stick with the maps on it........could that be reused with a new code? I suppose it depends whether it's a "cut & paste" or a "copy and paste" thing into the satnav memory as to whether the maps are still on it.
Your contact could make a few bucks generating the codes and we could save a few bucks by sharing the stick around. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

Well I guess the penny had to drop sooner or later.

Yes the same USB stick can be used to update multiple vehicles, it just needs a new activation code which is matched to the VIN of the car that is to be updated.

The maps on the USB are the same for all JLR vehicles with the IAM2.1 infotainment system.

And there are many Jag owners who already went down this road, and have the maps on a USB that they don't need anymore. It's just a matter of getting the stick to the next guy, and getting the code from my friend.

And yes of course it's much cheaper than going through official channels. Half price sound good? 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

Half price (of £170) is still dearer than a lifetime subscription from Garmin which is about £75 IIRC. Being a tight git and having other options with my bike satnavs I wouldn't be prepared to pay that much.
Still good to know that it's possible though. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

I read somewhere that Australian sat navs have had to be updated because the country has moved several metres since the original mapping. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Great, thanks for this - I've been looking how to do this for last few weeks!

As part of buying a FL2 Metropolis I negotiated to get the maps updated for free and there was no way I could check.

Checked now and it only has 2014 maps!

Given the glacial rate of road building in the UK I am surprised that anyone needs a map update at all. The Romans built most of it. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
