Took out the old throttle body and opened it up. Found it was full of oil guessing a failed seal somewhere. Swapped it for a 2nd hand jobby off eBay and swapped out the cogs for the metal ones I had in the old one. Feels like a brand new car….well almost! Corrado VR6 Mystic Blue - Gone

Grew a pair and finally got around to removing the camshaft cover to change the gaskets and give it a once over. Turns out its not that bad of a job to do! All looked good with no blockages and PCV looked to be in good shape.

Was trying to find the source of the oil coming through and was wondering if anyone has got round to checking out the oil separator (LR003188) under the front of the engine? It doesn't look that easy to get at

Will have to take out the throttle body again as I think the replacement throttle body stripped its teeth on testing, made a grating noise when shutting off the engine and now doesn't make its usual clacking and whine performance Corrado VR6 Mystic Blue - Gone

Had the vehicle just over a year now (2011 HSE SD4) all has been fine and MOT passed with no major issues that concern me. It has been faultless on 500 mile runs up to Scotland fully loaded, at speed it inspires confidence and economy is good on the motorway.
Towing our 1450kg Ace Award Nighstar is a doddle, so much more relaxed than our CRV before and mpg towing varies from 24mpg up to 29mpg depending on hills!
It is so comfortable for long drives, similar to our old X1 23d, whereas the CRV forced you to get out and stretch your legs at every opportunity.
Small service due soon at Ottery Motor Services (fantastic and knowledgeable father & son team run it), then another year beckons! Do hope I get to test it fully in snow this year, generally disappointing in East Devon though!
Love this forum with all the info and advice, thank you 👍

Ukraine 2013 Freelander 2 2.0T SE Auto Fuji White

I ordered a new battery, waiting for it to turn up. In the mean time the current one wouldn't charge anymore, even with charger. Had to jumpstart myself with 4 x 26AH auxiliary batteries. No issues there.

But I still have the original 2013 Land Rover (Exide) battery which I kept for testing things, jump started a few cars, & charged it every few months over the last 5 years. Put it back in the car until the new one turns up.

The only issue is that I am effectively one handed at the moment having badly strained my wrist. Getting 20kg of battery up & over the front edge of the plastic box was a challenge. I did put a length of timber through the handle to lever up that last little bit. Then I could drag it out.

At this stage I think the old battery will be ok for a few weeks until I both hands working again.

Just had to reset the clock & date. Also the trip meter sets to zero km. If you do need to get in the boot without a battery, open it first & put a towel in the gap so you don't accidentally close it. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Filled up with diesel - 194.9 per litre. OUCH! 30p a litre more than petrol.

I filled my first new car, a mini, with petrol for the equivalent of £1.48, that is approximately 29p a gallon or 5.9p a litre. That was shortly after the budget which increased the price of petrol by 6d (2.5p) a gallon. At that time diesel was about three quarters the price of petrol, about 4.5p a litre.

Happy days,
J

I suppose that we ought to revive the 'Previous Car' thread if we are to discuss jimbo's thoughts properly.

Just as I use £100 as a handy amount to limit my car's fuel appetite these days, when I had my Ford 100E in 1961 I used to put £1 worth of petrol in it (7gall) tank. This was just over 4 gallons (4s 11d per gall) and used to last me the week of going to week and local shopping. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
