Hatch or Estate?

I guess unless you really need a cavern for a boot, go for the hatch. The boot will still be large.
Having said that, I have no experience of anything other than the estate.
My other half is a good driver and she can hussle it over a back road with indecent haste so I don't think
you could go wrong with the estate. Besides, you can sleep in it too if you want!

Stoob.

One more thing

To me, the garage I buy a car from/use for servicing is just as important than the car itself.
Ford dealers can be ok or worse than bad.
Our local Ford dealer in Livingston seems to be brilliant. However in the past I've had to use Ford dealers who have been worse than Arnold Clark if that's possible.

Much can be said about Land Rover dealers I guess.

Ford will give me £8300 for my car, with the dents on drivers side!

How about a bold move and going for a Subaru Legacy or Outback?

I do not claim to know what they are like these days besides reliability (probably below par interior) but my Dad owned one in the 90's and it ploughed through snow and tackled muddy fields and rutted tracks with ease.

You would have a spacious estate car with bad weather abilities to give the FL2 a run for its money. Not to mention legendary reliability.

Just a thought.... LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Seem to remember reading that you get lots of torque steer and that they eat tyres but that might have been the Aero saloon. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Not such a bold move - Subarus are pretty good cars. I've owned an Impreza and a Forester, and my brother is on his third Outback (a top-of-the-range 3 litre flat 6) and loves it - apart from the running costs. And that's their main problem - don't expect them to be cheap to run. Routine maintenance is expensive, and fuel consumption not particularly good. Other than that, they may not have the style of an Audi or BMW, but they'll keep going after those have ground to a halt.

Not a fan of the Subaru, cheap looking interiors.

Given the choice of sitting in a snowdrift with a plush interior or ploughing through it in a cheap-looking one I know which I'd go for!

Besides, the high-end Outbacks aren't bad at all.

I am really not bothered about driving in the snow. If it snows I don't go anywhere simples

Do bare in mind Saab backup may be patchy if anything goes wrong...no official dealer network anymore.

More to the point, the brand doesn't exist anymore! Confused Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Hi Landy

I hadn't heard they were making SAAB's again, but that would make me very happy.

I haven't driven the 9-3 Estate, but I did own the 9-3 Saloon Aero 210 BHP and it was the best car I ever had !
It was more comfortable than any car I have owned, including the FL !

The downsides are that rear legroom is limited for a big car, especially when compared to the Mondeo, and as already mentioned when the front tyres start to wear you do notice it especially in the wet. I drove mine much harder than the average owner would, and was needing new tyres every 8000 miles to get the best out of it. Luckily the firm paid for them.

I can't think of anything bad about my SAAB, and I still miss it. Big Cry _________________
