Quite like the mondeo estate, has lots of toys and some still have air con seats!

I had a 2.0 T Saab Aero from new (2006). It was a brilliant car which I loved. Based on the VX Vectra but screwed together properly and with leather seats as comfortable as a rocket propelled sofa. Reliability was superb for 5 years and it was driven very, very hard.

The problem is that since GM pulled the plug, Saab are no more Sad
This will have a knock on effect for spares and repairs in the future, and as much as I hate to say it I would steer clear mate.

If you go for an estate car, my recommendations would be
1) Skoda Octavia VRS Estate (if you can live with the badge its a great car, big boot, loads of leg room in rear and quick...VW at the end of the day)
2) 2009 onwards Mondeo (Bit of a barge but good value and absolutely huge)
3) Subaru Legacy (Underestimated Australian farmers truck due to reliability and capacity)

Good luck Thumbs Up _________________

Think you should be tempted to go for a Freelander 2 SE, General Grabber AT`S, 2011 full facelift, projector lights, privacy glass, drilled brakes with 94k on the clock Thumbs Up Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

The mark 4 Mondeo was facelifted towards the end of 2009, with the changes mostly on the interior toys, such as digital dash and colour 'user interface', which has voice controlled dual zone climate temp control, radio station selection and easy smart phone bluetooth interface on the higher range models.

For around 9k you could find a 2009/2010 Titanium or Titanium X (top of range) with under 40k on the clock, which for spec rivals the BMW 5 series. Don't rule out a hatch until you've seen it - the boot is massive.
Hope this helps. _________________

The subaru has to be the smartest choice so far (other than another LR), but their interiors are not up to the job here I think :/

spend a day in a hire car, and it will annoy you enough to convince you that your LR2 is where you want to be... keep it.. maybe they come up with something nice in 2015 with this DC100 thing...

certainly the 10K budget including your car, will limit your choice for something decent.

I would agree that the mondeo and the skoda could be likely contenders.

+1 on the Mondeo Estate

My other half has a 58 plate Mondeo Estate 2.0 diesel Edge (basic model).
It's a fantastic car. Very comfortable, huge inside, she gets anywhere from 47mpg to 50+ mpg and it has loads of overtaking oomph. It feels a bit flimsy in places but nothing has gone wrong so it has been cheap to run.
For the money (she got it 1 year old via Ford's direct 2nd hand scheme) it's hard to justify anything else.
