Normally there is a c clip on the end of the shaft inside the joint and a good clout will shift it do not use a hammer on hardened steel as said before copper or brass.

I meant replace the other drive shaft, you will spend as much on the two joints as you would on a new shaft.
That said I understand your question for mechanical knowledge if you have better pictures ...
