Gear selector.

Does anyone know what this does the grey/black connector it seams to be a sensor magnetic or otherwise. I know what the green connector on the otherside does and have the wiring diagram for it.
I hope some one can identify it and point me in the direction of the wiring for it.

Mel

Is this what you are looking for?

This is from page 1370 of the Repair Manual and Wiring Diagrams.

https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic10621.html

You say that you know the function of one of the connectors --- what does it do? --- knowing this will help me understand what you are looking for.

Sensor Module

A sensor module is located on the LH side of the selector lever. The sensor module is an intelligent unit and controls the selector position LED operation and also the shift interlock solenoid operation. The sensor module comprises a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) and Hall effect sensors which detect the selected position of the selector lever (M/S and +/-) via magnet located on the lever mechanism. The signals from the Hall sensors are passed from a connector on the sensor module to the TCM on a Local Interconnect Network (LIN) bus.

The sensor module main connector uses four pins for LIN bus, ground, power and neutral inputs and outputs.
A second connector allows for the connection of a ribbon cable from the selector position LED for night illumination and position illumination.
A third connector supplies power and ground connections to the shift interlock solenoi
d.

The sensor module also includes an optical sensor which determines that the selector lever is in the Park (P) position. The sensor is located behind the module housing and is not visible. Alignment marks on the sensor housing and the sensor arm must be aligned when the selector lever is in the Park (P) position. When these 2 marks are aligned the optical sensor/park position is correctly adjusted. This adjustment is set at the point of manufacture and does not require re-setting under normal operating conditions.

There is a very good description of the workings of the Gear Selector Module, with diagrams on and around this page.

This is the diagram I have for the main sensor connector but cannot identify the other one.

I am asking this because my command shift has never worked and after testing I believe the main switch/sensor is faulty and to complete testing I wanted to check this out before changing the main sensor.

Thanks Mel for reply, I have looked in vain for that connector amongst the sensors and switches connecting to the CJB and other units on other wiring diagrams.

I take it that the LED Gear Selection Indicators are not working correctly on Selector Console or in the Drivers Instrument Panel when you move the Gear Lever around.

To help identify the Sensor? Unit, can you look at the colour codes of the wires going into that connector.

Is everything else working on that Central Console (eg Off-Road Modes) FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Thank you both for your input, as you can see from the latest photo the grey connector connects into the black socket which serves only to dock the grey connector. I can only assume that the connection must be for other countries than ours.
I swapped out the gear shift for another no more than 20 mins getting the center console out is the biggest task. The command shift is now fully working at least while parked I just need to learn how to use it.

thanks again

Mel.

Mel I think you are right.

I asked Nodge68 (who knows most things about the FL2) and he replied ---

It looks like a plug keeper to me. These sorts of devices are used to keep plugs from optional equipment not fitted from rattling about, although this one looks very elaborate.

Glad that you have solved your Commandshift problem. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
