My 2009 HSE Auto had similar symptoms, it used to shake the car quite badly when accelerating. Had the PTU changed by Bell engineering on Monday and it has gone, different car.

Oh yes very cold 0 degrees most of the time but I used to work at MG Longbridge factory and we had no heating....we used to get icicles inside it was so cold so I'm used to it.
