Not a LR, but my neighbours Touran chewed up his aux belt and some of it got into the timing belt cover a few years ago. Broke the belt and cost him just over £4K to put right. |

I'd ask your home insurer. I think you should have liability cover as standard and I would think you can insure them under contents away from home. |

If you're losing fluid it's will be a leak, probably slave cylinder, if you're not losing fluid it will be master cylinder. |
