I used one of my wife's small "tupperware" containers. It's the perfect size and doesn't rattle one bit. It even has an airtight lid and was FREE!

Same here, 46,000 miles and it looks like the pads have plenty of life left. I went through pads more frequently on my Range Rover classic and Freelander 1- maybe Land Rover got it right on the LR2.

I had similar symptoms on my 2008 LR2. it turned out to be the power steering pump- replaced under warranty, no issues since.

You don't NEED the LR mats, but they are actually very high quality. I've used LR mats in all my rovers for years and they've always held up exceptionally well.
