Are you trying to catch CG up in the number of posts ? What if there were no hypothetical situations?

I was gonna get one of these...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Landrover-Freelander...230fd6d04c

price is a bit steep but at least it fits with a spoiler. They've been on there for ages so I suspect he'll take a reasonable offer... I know he refused by £85 but thats was about a month ago Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

Clipped to the glass frame yes - not clipped to the wiper though... I've not checked but I assume there must be a metal brace behind the glass the it levers against Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

no metal plates, the hooks are supposed to go over the top of the tailgate but he has the idiotic spoiler so no can do

I wouldnt use it like that, but fine without the spoiler, I use dumbells on the straps that do go round the glass, they sit on the side parcel shelves then can be pulled up to the inner door frame once the boot is closed. At work

Trying to find a way to carry our two bikes, The problems are, I am towing a caravan with a detachable Witter tow bar, so I can't attach it there, I have a factory fitted sports kit so I cant find a rear fitting carrier that will work with the spoiler. I have a panoramic sunroof so the only bars I think that will fit are the LR bars and they cost an arm and a leg. Any Ideas?

Back to original post. I have a MAXXTRAX cycle carrier the mount for which fits between the fixed tow ball and mounting plate. They do a special clamp on version for removable tow balls I believe which may have to be fitted by a specialist. These carriers are designed to carry bikes whilst towing. I have used the carrier whilst solo but not towing yet. Hope to give it a try shortly. The carrier is designed to hinge down with bikes mounted to allow access to the boot. The design is superb. Very robust and steady, no interference with bodywork, and easy bike mounting. I have bought the vertical extension tube to make sure that the bikes clear the A frame jockey wheel shaft etc when turning whilst towing. With the extension tube fitted two straps to the top of hatch must also be fitted for extra stability. 2007 TD4 SE Manual

I hope you all know exactly how much weight is in already in the caravan when you add bikes at 10s of kgs a time ... My caravan has to be very carefully loaded (we have all awnings, most foodstuff and drinks, clothes and security devices in the car because we're at MTPLM - even the hookup cables go in the car to keep the weight down!).

Noseweight could be a problem also if the bikes are mounted on the caravan A-frame.... most 'vans have a 100kg limit on the chassis.... The FL2 allows 150kg on the towbar itself, so a carrier on the towbar itself might be less of an issue.

{We're continually amazed at how much stuff emerges from others' caravans when they arrive on site.}

Can you not upgrade the MTPLM of your van ?
Mine comes in at 1394Kg but with a quick phone call to swift it could be upgraded to 1500Kg and a new plate and documents supplied. Plus an extra 4psi in the tyres.

As for the racks I was thinking about getting something like the maxxraxx to go on my fixed towbar for 2 adult bikes and a rack on the back of the van for the 2 kids bikes, just need to add up all the weights first Confused
