Leaving tailgate unlocked

Hi guys,

I have a Trans K9 lockable dog crate,( very highly recommended by the way ) which totally fills the back of my LR2 with the summer approaching I want to know if it is possible to lock the vehicle but leave the tailgate up, for short visits to shops etc JRS

Why do you ask this, just try it.
I do know if you leave the tailgate open, it does not automatically lock itself.

you need a spare tounge part of the tailgate, slide it into the lock (maybe you could push the latch over with a screwdriver etc instead??) , that way the car will think the tailgate is closed and allow locking, not sure what the volumetric alarm will have to say about that though Confused At work

Lock car, then press the boot open button on the remote control to open boot, other doors remain locked, (but the boot will lock if closed so watch your keys)

I would only one press when locking as 2 sets alarm, and may activate still with boot open

Would the dog crate be able to be lifted out to gain access Question would you be insured if something was stolen as you left your boot open Question would the RSPCA be involved if a 'good' samaritan closed the boot thinking you have forgot Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

thanks for the replies and concerns, crate is fixed inside the vehicle and would be a difficult and time consuming removal( especially with two dogs inside. as stated I would only consider doing this if it was a quick dash into a shop. JRS

If I try to lock mine and any door is unlocked the car horn sounds.. as npinks has said lock it then tailgate release.

When you press the fob to lock once that sets the door alarm twice does the same plus the volumetric sensors are activated (well it does on mine anyway) 2010 FL2 XS Auto in Santorini Black with HSE alloys

There is a gadget for this, sold in Swedish pet shops called "fresh air hooks".
Just open the tailgate, stick it in the lock at the opened rear door. Press the locking button once and it locks the side doors. To remove it, press the rear door button and it snaps off.
