you need a spare tounge part of the tailgate, slide it into the lock (maybe you could push the latch over with a screwdriver etc instead??) , that way the car will think the tailgate is closed and allow locking, not sure what the volumetric alarm will have to say about that though |

thanks for the replies and concerns, crate is fixed inside the vehicle and would be a difficult and time consuming removal( especially with two dogs inside. as stated I would only consider doing this if it was a quick dash into a shop. JRS |

If I try to lock mine and any door is unlocked the car horn sounds.. as npinks has said lock it then tailgate release.

There is a gadget for this, sold in Swedish pet shops called "fresh air hooks".
