The transmission takes information from its sensors:
- transmission input speed
- transmission output speed
- transmission fluid temperature sensor
- switches from the gear lever
Also comunicates with:
1) Engine ECU for:
a) engine temperature info
b) throttle possition info
c) cruise control info
d) telling to engine ECU when to reduce engine torque for smoother shift
2) ABS ECU - for road speed.
Based on all these information gearbox ECU can determine in any moment all the information needed in order to change or to not change gears efficiently.
Imagine, just by changing firmware (the program inside ECU) you can optimize and actuate anything. And as long as "the program" is written correctly, all is OK. You can't damage the mechanism.
