Navigation unlock while driving?

First, a question for those of you in Europe: Can you use the full functionality of the navigation systems while in motion, ie. enter an address without stopping? Front seat passengers only of course...

Secondly, has anyone heard of a hack to allow us to disable the navigation lock? I found a procedure for 2006 and older Range Rovers and there are some hardware solutions for other Land Rovers on eBay but I haven't found anything on the Freelander 2/LR2.

Any and all insight would be appreciated, I find it incredibly annoying that I can eat a Big Mac, or fumble around looking for a cell phone or load CD's or change a radio station while driving but someone decided that entering an address whilst on the move is verboten. Particularly when my wife is driving and I really am a passenger... Greg East

I have the Denso Navigation System and didn't noticed any lock while driving. Even in the motorway.
There is a screen that alert you not to drive and play with navigat screen. That's all.

My personal experience:
I must say that probably is most dangerous than eating a bigmac or using the mobile becouse your concentrations is fixed on the dashboard and used for reading, clicking and writing. I noticed that the two times that I did it I wasn't driving staight. Happily the motorway was desert.
Very dangerous!!!
Second: my wife started entering the cohordinates to let me drive. I's difficult to look at the street because i'm attracted in what she is doing. You know, it is quite difficult to drive concentrated while someone move the hands on the dashboard and sometimes ask you if it is correct or not...

No lock whilst driving with the navigation system here in the UK, but the radio does lock out the phone setup menu until the car is completly stopped. (not the phone book)

Which is strange, doesn't allow you to mess with phone setting but allows you to enter your destination.

Which I can say you do not want to be doing this whilst driving, especially past a mobile speed camera at 36mph in a 30mph zone. £60 and 3 points on the driving licence later I always enter my destination before driving off. Embarassed that way i notice i have driven into a 30mph zone

Thanks gents, this gives me hope that it is in indeed possible. I've been trying to find a hidden button on the display that will take me to a setup menu, which is the procedure I found for the Range Rover. So far, no joy... Greg East

ColoradoLR2 did you find any success on unlocking the nav?

I agree on you that it is annoying to know that you need to be in full stop to input another address.

What if i suddenly change my mind to go to this place instead of that place? In order for me to do that I need to stop? I find that so annoying Mad Do Not Follow Me...You Can't Go Where I Go!!!

It not all cars in the UK that allow driving and inputting addresses, My dads Lexus RX400h you have to be stopped to input the address. I have heard there is software updates to get around that, but can invalid the warrenty by doing so.

Good luck in your search.

older D3's have to be stopped, you can get them unlocked but I've never seen the point. D4 HSE Lux for me
FL2 HSE Zermatt & Alpacca for the wife now gone
Skoda Yeti L&K for the wife.

The US system is locked whilst in motion due to potential litigation , there is no hack , but there is sonmething called the car config file which determnes the market , the dealer may be able via the IDS diagnostic kit tell youre car that it is european in respect of nav and therefore the nav will work in motion
