Auto Gearbox Failure

I am quite interested to find out if anyone else has had the gearbox fail. Mine @ 73000 km started to slip, loose power, and after limping for 20km made it to the dealer. They drained the oil and found steel filings in it. I am now waiting for a new one to be imported. Would like to find out if mine was an exception. I do often drive in the manual mode and tow a boat/bikes. Please advise.

Is your FL2 model year 2007 ?
Is your VIN in range of LF023393 to LF050392 ?
Becase I've posted a link to a service action which states that a limited number of Freelander 2 vehicles may have been manufactured away from specification and in some cases, the Torque Converter Lock Up Clutch wear generates particles, which in turn block the filter leading to a reduction in hydraulic system line pressure. Reduced line pressure results in harsh shifts, engine flare (generate DTCs for ratio faults), transmission malfunction warning lamp/transmission fault in message centre and ultimately loss of drive.

My VIN No. is given as LFA23B37H033644 on my licence papers.

How does this fit in the range you gave.

Fits exactly in the specified interval, but seems that only vehichles sold to several specific countries outside UK are affected.
I don't know why is that, maybe someone explain it to me... In the end, the box is the same... Or there is some discrimination based on country, race, etc... Censored

My car was returned to me on Monday after 3 weeks in the garage to get a new rear diff and i now have Transmission Fault warning on the dashboard. It felt as if the car was skipping gears and jumping up and down the ratios at times. Doesn't do it all the time but now had a transmission fault message for the first time. Is this similar to the problems others have had before a total failure of the auto box.

Update

I now have a car with a failed gearbox which requires replcement and guess what the parts are not available. I had only just got the car back after a 3 week wait for a new rear diff.

I have had 5 different cars this month so far and now waiting to see what Land Rover will provide me with this time.

Am i just unlucky or is it my driving. Big Cry

Can't help but feel the events are related, otherwise your seriusly unlucky.

Probably the spanner monkey Censored up the gearbox somehow whilst working on the diff. 58 HSE, auto, lago grey, tints. Mine and my dogs Storm and Sky

In defense of the spanner monkey there was problems with the gearbox slipping before the diff was replaced but i thought this was a symptom of the diff failure and not a gearbox failure.

Looks like its just bad luck or too much caravan towing, before anyone else mentions it.

Dont know what has caused the gearbox to fail but sure it wasn't towing a caravan. I am now in my 5th different car this month and they keep getting better. Now driving a FFRR TDV8 and its goes like stink, very comfy too and lots of toys to play with. I guess I'll have to hand it back some day though.

I'll keep you updated as to what has caused the gearbox failure if they find out.

Now have my own car back with new auto gearbox. I hope not to visit the dealers again for a while. On the plus side i have kept about 3000 miles off my car in the last few weeks.

I am happy to say that despite all the problems recently i still love the car and will concider another one when mine is due to be changed next year.
