It was just up on YouTube, only about a day old. Talking about redundancies in the car business etc.

I am not anti , just know I am to old and the EV is to expensive for me to ever afford, so will never own one in my lifetime. Plus the government wants old people off the roads, tightening up with use of medical examination etc. Harry does make a lot of sense when he is talking.

He makes some very interesting points.

And maybe a 50 year old Rolls Royce could be more environmentally friendly . Jules

I've been following Harry for a few years now. Sometimes, I watch the Farm videos, which are well done. Harry's knowledge of cars is outstanding, and it's interesting to watch his costs at the end of the year.

Yes he is interesting and speaks well. The castings on the farm shows why farmers are not growing crops and are leaving it to the wildlife instead

All this makes it very dificult to decide what to buy to replace the Freelander with- but with luck that could be several years away yet , and hopefully the situation will become clearer by then. Jules

Nothing on the market replaces the Freelander.
I want to take a Freelander too, "Retropower" and get them to work their magic.
They post on YouTube every week, and this week was on an Austin Allagro that they have updated.
Worth a watch, imagine what they could do with a Freelander.

Harry Garage is very informative and entertaining, not watched this episode yet...

Prior to buying my FL2 I had a brand new Hyundai Tuscon 230ps fossil/lekky hybrid. Incredibly smart and responsive vehicle but I always felt like I was disconnected from the road (which I was of course). The purchase was off the back of a 16 plate Cashcow coming off of PCP and not wanting to loose the massive residual afforded by the cov*d effect and silly low % APR. I had it three years, had little use and and sold it on. That paid for the FL2 outright and I don't regret it for one minute (even with silly niggly issues).

I'll be very interested to see what happens to the industry over the coming years. Other YT guys like Jo Betty/Shifting Metal has shut his dealer doors, The Logbook is also thinking of regressing to a home/farm setup. The used car market is being squeezed out of existence.

I think the garage ones are struggling with consumer laws and what customers expect for their money. Employees and minimum wage, tax etc. I know a kitchen fitter with enough work to employ someone, but said it’s to much aggro to employ someone and easier to just do less work. The aggro out weighs any extra money.

Two interesting FL2 sized SUVs I am keeping an eye on.

Mercedes GLC 300de is a Diesel/Battery Hybrid, with the recent model having a claimed 70mile range (should be about 50 real world miles). Now available used.
Kia EV5 almost the same size and height of my FL2. Only available new.

Both have a decent high driving position and are well equipped. (and would allow me to drive through Bristol without fear of a fine)

The only hiccup are the prices (I am of the £ s d generation) FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 85k+ miles) (MY2015)

I'm looking at the Peugeot 3008 EAT8 Hybrid4 300 post 2021, selectable 4wheel drive, I had a 2011 3008 diesel 2 litre auto in 2019 for a year while selling my house and waiting for my Spanish visa, I was quite impressed so a Hybrid 4wd 300bhp would be good. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

One option is to take your FL2 to JLR Classics (https://www.jaguarlandroverclassic.com/restorations) and have them restore it to showroom condition. Along the way they could upgrade one or two of your choice items.

I would go for Adaptive Cruise Control, Apple iPlayer facility with upgraded AV, upgraded engine management of my i6 to give more torque and better fuel consumption.

Only thing is, it would be pretty expensive! Tim

I would like:
Paddle gear shift on the steering wheel.
Individual tyre pressure display.
Better headlights.
Android auto Jules
