Aren't we all?

Yes this is correct, the 7 round leds are just the DRLs, they go off when any other lights switch on, signature strips are the equivalent to side lights. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Feeling rather daft.
But looking on the bright side - at least there isnt anything really wrong with the car.

MOT now booked.

Glad you solved the problem.

I must admit that I am getting to old for these modern car systems that have a mind of their own.

I believe that it will only get worse as the newer cars are continually updated over the internet, and very little info will be given.

Have now discovered another feature of the DRL operation. Once on , the DRLs stay on if you then put the car back into Neutral or Park. This enables them to remain on in traffic jams or traffic lights etc. Only when you turn the ignition off do they go off. You then have to turn the ignition on and move into Drive or Reverse for them to come back on. Complicated or sophisticated ! just like the rest of the Freelander FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey

Well, clearly I'd been doing this, without realising its significance, when I tested the lights for all the previous MOTs.
The one time I did it by just turning the engine on got me totally confused. Laughing Jules

My car is a manual and the DRLs just come on when the engine is running regardless of what gear. Never thought that an auto might behave differently...

I dont recall the manual behaving like this or similart, but our SD4 wont let you open the tailgate from the outside unless the gearlever is in P.
Safety feature I suppose. Jules
