LED Sidelights (OEM) stopped working (2014 SD4) - SOLVED

Both my headlight units are playing up in the same way. Which is annoying as Ive got the MOT coming soon.

The seven LED sidelights are not working at all, and DRLs "signature strip" are working some of the time according to position of the column stalk.

Ign only or with engine ON makes no difference.

stalk setting:
OFF - no lights, no DRL
Side light - DRL on only
Headlight - DRL on + Headlight on (+/- main beam)
AUTO (in daylight) - no lights , no DRL

For reference - here are the lights, taken some ago, in AUTO setting when the sidelight and DRL were working. Now neither DRL strip or sidelight is illuminated in AUTO .

Have scanned with AP200 - no faults found.

As both lights have failed together it makes me think the cause is something more central - the column stalk maybe ?? Or the CJB ??

Any advice would be grateful received. Jules

Thinking ahead - How easy is it to replace the CJB and get it up and running ?? Jules

An annoying problem Jules……I think I would be looking at the column stalk switch first….much simpler.
Autoelectricians should be able to suss it out ……

I forgot to add…..

I had a similar problem years ago on my Disco 2…..I was travelling north on M40 at 5am in winter…..
lots of trucks were flashing me after I passed them…..I stopped at Warwick Services & found I had only headlights illuminated……no side or rear lamps……dash lights were ok. I put rear fog lamps on & carried on to work. I suspected column switch problem…..took covers off & noticed the switch was slightly distorted…..may have melted a bit. Ordered & fitted new switch ….all ok …..bizzare ! FL2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto MY 2012— current

For what it's worth, just checked operation on mine. I get following results, which suggests drl and sidelights are wrong way round!

Off - 7 LED & Signature
Sidelight - signature
Headlight - headlight & signature
Auto - 7 led & signature

Be interesting to know how other face-lift cars operate.

With mine, OFF and AUTO gives nothing illuminated.

Just had the stalk off - easy - 2 screws and has a small multi-pin connector - looks OK but I have no way of testing it. Jules

Off - 7 LED & Signature
Sidelight - dim signature only
Headlight - headlight & dim signature
Auto - 7 led & signature (or headlight & dim signature depending on light level)

I have read of some problems on here where wiring faults have caused the BCM to shut down the DRL circuit (or one side DRL only) or the signature circuit.

Maybe try unplugging one of the headlamp units to see if the behaviour changes?

No auto light function on my GS. (I actually prefer this as I think I'm better placed to decide upon what illumination I require than a sensor).
Off gives DRLs and signature strips.
Side lights on, just signature strips. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Can you turn off the auto lights through the dashboard menu. At least until rego is done.

Agree, personally prefer these sort of things to be manual. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Do you have the 7 LED round sidelight? If so, when do they come on ? Jules

No - there is no option to turn AUTO off via menu.
