New 9.7” Android head unit

Hi,

I’ve noticed that there looks to be a new android based head unit which comes with a 9.7” screen. Don’t suppose anyone has had a go with one yet? Thinking of swapping the xtrons unit out for it.

This is it: https://ebay.us/m/WCMOxV

Thanks,
Simon

Why would you?
The Xtrons is nicely integrated... 2006 FR2 Diesel manual, now 2006 FR2 Petrol auto and a Series 3 109 SW.

In answer to the questions about why would I replace the xtrons unit, the answer is simply that I’ve always had a few issues with mine - specifically the auto dimming with lights. It’s never worked properly and the brightness goes up and down at random when the lights are on (not noticeable is in the summer months where you don’t have the lights on as much but ‘winter is coming’ and the though of dealing with that doesn’t fill me with joy). The version I have is pretty early too and didn’t have CarPlay built in. I subsequently added this with the additional xtrons CarPlay dongle but this too I think is a little flakey.

No idea if this new unit is going to be much better, hence the question.

I would have to agree with both arguments……

If the old Xtrons is not up to scratch, then it needs to be replaced…

But….

I would stay with Xtrons, a known supplier that by all accounts has a good rep, rather than a new untested device…..

Especially when you realise that the Xtrons is now the same price as the replacement you are looking at…£135.

Also the issue that a big screen like that looks very tempting to the eyes and also looks easy to just rip off. Even if it is impossible to just pry off, those who might try will care little about any collateral damage….

I ordered the Xtrons Sunday, arrived yesterday DPD tracked, new item, proper packaging etc. waiting for the weekend… I have a cunning plan.....!

Enjoy it. I think there are plenty of people who are happy with their units. I don’t think I can bring myself to purchase the same thing again. If I’d had a better experience of the hardware or support that may be different.

I’m not convinced the larger screen would attract much unwanted attention - it would have to be a pretty naive thief to think ripping a screen off a head unit is going to get them anything of value (not to suggest these people don’t exist).

I suspect in reality both the units are made in the same factory in china, both are using a similar microntec MTCE PX30 or equivalent main board and it really just comes down to whether you care about screen size and whether or not you want to run through the aux of the original head unit or not.
