I think we are the last of a long line of DIY car mechanics.

People who buy more modern cars (younger people generally) dont do work on them because: the cars are difficult/impossible to work on, they dont have the skills, dont have the tools, dont have the information (no old fashioned Haynes), dont have the space - all this dissuades people from even picking up a spanner.

The future.
A friend has a BMW 2 series hybrid. When he books it for a service, the dealership interrogates the car 24hrs before the booking via the internet. Jules

I think your right there's no way the younger generation will struggle to fix their own car let alone build up the vast array of tools needed to work on anything made after the 70s, I still enjoy diagnosing and fixing my cars, i remember when I was a kid there was always a couple of neighbours tinkering with there cars on a Sunday and I would always watch and ask questions and pass the odd spanner Very Happy

Such is life these days. I have no such problems keeping my 1951 Citroen going, simplicity itself.

Not a spot of rust anywhere. Am amazed how the underside, which I can get under without using ramps, looks as new what with our crappy roads.

Yes I was thinking of Rupert Davies playing Maigret during the sixties……he was so good that it was dubbed into French & screened in France…..! Even Georges Simenon thé creator of Maigret though he was the best…..! Smoked some Gaulois though……. FL2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto MY 2012— current

Rupert Davies owned an actual TA which was stolen. Though he did get it back eventually.
