MOT emissions failure

Right she failed MOT monday on emissions failure, lots of black smoke on acceleration etc etc.
They are booked to replace a turbo pipe friday that is leaking, supposedly. In the meantime I told them I would remove the egr blanking plate I had fitted. Did that this morning had a blob of oily gunge on it at exhaust side. I removed it and my wife used car. On coming back she said very hesitant on acceleration.
I confirmed this and black smoke so put cover plate back on acceleration fine but still black smoke.
So removed airbox and obviously maf sensor and squited lots of Lucas egr/turbo cleaner down it. I had before hand placed a white tissue under the exhaust. After plenty of fluid squirted in the tissue still white.
I then took organ pipe section off and squirted yet more cleaner in. Reconnected everything and off for a run. Lots of black smoke, damn I thought. Anyway I am now thinking is the maf sensor because on disconnecting it there is no smoke at all. Confirmed this by reconnecting, black smoke disconnecting it
no black smoke. Now I am booked in for a retest on Friday and looking like I will leave the maf sensor disconnected. Will they pick this up and is it allowed? I doubt they would see it disconnected. I cannot get a replacement in time for friday. They could fit one yes at some silly price.

just connect sensor, it but not fully, egr blanking probably is an mot fail, but you cant tell thats been defiantly done although there is a metal gasket that can be seen ,but that is not proof its been blocked.

Exactly as some blanking plates have a hole in then anyway.A m going to change maf sensor anyway as noted in another post of mine.
And in any case on the hose from base of egr valve how squashy should it be? Garage told me it needed replacing. Not convinced no obvious leaking noise and is soft but not to any extreme.

I'd be making sure that all the boost hoses are free from splits or leaks. Any loss of air will result in black smoke. The MAF is working, if it stops smoking with it disconnected, as the ECM reverts to a difference fuel map when there's no input from the MAF. The ECM also disables the EGR cycle if there's no MAF signal.

Have you checked the little link hose below the throttle body? That's the most likely to split, and is also very difficult to see any damage.
I've also come across damaged MAF wiring, close to the plug. I've had to replace a couple of plug with a short length of harness.
I must admit that I just replace boost hoses after 10 years as a matter of course. I consider them as consumables. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Yes it is the rubber bit that is squishy. I will order one anyway to be on the safe side. Would you happen to know the part number?

As I wrote on my post from last year I bought mine via Autodoc.fr…..it was a genuine Gates part

09-0567…..if you look on Autodoc.co.uk I’m sure the same part will be listed….same part no…..

Alternatively look on EBay as has been suggested recently……..this is a very common part. FL2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto MY 2012— current
