Autobox slipping+?

Hi everyone, just purchased a 2013 Dynamic, looks lovely and drove like a dream for three days however..
When driving down the local dual carriageway at about 60 the power dropped off and there was a metallic grinding noise from what seemed like the o/s front area, it seems to select gears OK, if you just poodle round down its fine and it can be fine for an hour or so, then it's back again.
I've plugged my icarsoft in but no fault codes it's got a meticulous service history and the Haldex was serviced about 2 ago.
It's under warranty but can't get it in anywhere till next week so was wondering if anyone has any ideas

Thanks in advance 😊

Fingers crossed that the warranty covers it for you. Any noise like that sounds expensive to me, but I know nothing.

Possibly the front ptu (basically the front diff). The splines in these can wear unfortunately. Another 'maintenance free item' according to Landrover but oil in it should be changed just like the rear diff. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Start with basics first. Have you checked the Discs and pads,
Sounds to me possibly like worn pads.

If he had metal to metal, i.e. no friction lining on the brake pads. It would be present all the time and more than likely only be noticeable when the brakes are applied. If you re read the post he states he can drive it at reduced speeds for a while before it occurs. 2007 TD4 XS The work horse that earns its up keep

Yeah not discs or pads all replaced last service. The offside drives shaft was replaced last year it sounds like it's from that area, maybe I'll have a peek round there but with it being intermittent it's a Censored .

I notice that the OP mentions involuntary drop in power,
Does this open up a possibility that the noise is associated with the turbo vanes, they can make a racket if they cannot decide what angle they should be ? --- (although normally around 1800rpm in my experience)

Also as it seems to be only 3 days since he bought it, I would be asking the seller for help or resolution of the problem.

Otherwise Bell Engineering starts to appear on the horizon

Thanks for the input chaps, bit of rubbish diagnosis on my part, it's not a drop in power the revs actually increase but its a loss of drive, it seems to happen after about ten mins of driving loss of drive Metallic noise from o/s front then slows down, keep the revs low for a while and in a lower gear and it's fine again trouble is being intermittent it's a swine to fault find.

The gearbox was shot, returned to dealer for full refund, now the owner of a 2014 HSE,
3 Freelanders in a month, is this a record... 🤣

Thanks for the update. Its always nice to see how things turn out, especially with a happy ending.
Thank goodness you had a warranty and hadn't bought it privately. Jules
