A great deal of the towns and peripheral roads in the Scottish Borders are now 20MPH,
It's a real struggle for the Lumber (timber) lorry's to
drive the peripheral roads at 20mph. DAVE.

The road I live on isn't actually a road, just a long driveway to houses. It has no outlet and two almost blind bends. It was full of potholes and bumps that upset the BMW owners so funds were found for a resurfacing. Since then speeds have gone up dramatically - I'd say to around 30mph at times. So when I'm washing my caravan and will have to step out into the roadway at times I have my Land Rover parked on the road - and not tight to the kerb. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!

Our small lane is private also and we had it resurfaced about ten years ago and at the same time we (the lane management committee) had small speed bumps put in, which actually coincide with each entrance and they also act as rain water dams to the separate homes drainage other wise it would all come straight down to us at the bottom! There is only five of them but what it does do is put off holiday makers who seeing any lane want to explore, that and a big sign saying “Private Road, No Turning at the Bottom” puts them off thankfully. Regards

David

If it's private you could stick in a boom gate. Change road colour & make it look private, a cattle grid as well. 5mph sign. A large obvious pole & signage at the entrance "Private property you are under surveillance" etc. A private road sign I saw in New Zealand 'Private access next of kin will not be informed'. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

In that case a hidden road without the crocodiles... on the other hand.

A couple of "armed" guards at the entrance.

Just wondered how does this works for cyclists?
Bicycles don't have speedometers unless fitted by the cyclist, and its quite easy to exceed 20mph especially on a descent. Jules

It is a little lizard called the Perentie up to 2.5 metres long & 20kg & can do 25mph (40kph). They named a Land Rover after it, the perfect vehicle for modern day camping... 2 tonne payload!

Bikes. You have cobble stones. Failing that a section of Australian corrugated road https://vimeo.com/364281135 that will sort the Land Rovers out from the bicycles.

If people are looking for afternoon tea & scones a sign along these lines might deter sightseers.

Some of the top cyclists are pushing over 90k down hill,
Not me I might add, I would have bricked it half that. Laughing DAVE.

Cyclists don’t have speed limits, they are not bound by normal road limits unless specified in local bylaws.

That’s as far as I’ll comment Whistle

Edit: I should add that they can be prosecuted for cycling furiously or wanton and furious cycling Rolling with laughter Regards
