Thanks for taking the pictures, I'll try taking a few more of ours to compare to, so we can see if we can work out what the difference is.

There must be something different as it wasn't a bad job at all.

What age is yours? Is it an auto?

I take it the poster above is a 2014 SD4 auto from the signature. I'm wondering if it is an auto thing that restricts the space?

Much easier for me with the flex spanner from underneath.

2007 auto has to be done from underneath.

The above image shows the photo from Billsy alongside a photo from mine. I've tried to get the same angle etc. The lighting in mind isn't as good so the filter is a little hidden. However the space doesn't look much different.

Can anyone else spot any noticeable differences that would make it plenty of room on mine but not on that one?

I'm presuming the difference must be auto Vs manual.

Could be the pics, but it looks like there is less room from the fan shroud to the block and less room to the filter cap on mine?

Possibly larger fan pack in an auto?

Mine is a 2011 SD4, auto, Aircon, I can reach down from the top and attach a ring spanner:
