Ipanema Sand 2009 FL2 SE 2.2TD

I wanted to capture the work I’ve done on my car in one spot so thought this would be best.

Purchased car: 214,825km 29/5/2021
Fitted with 19” alloys

As of the 14/1/2022 I’ve done 234,049km averaging about 8.0L/100km (35.5mpg)

Work completed so far:
New thermostat - stuck open temp gauge not sitting mid range
Two oil and filter changes
Front and rear discs and pads
Fitted 18” Evoque alloys (anyone want a set of 5 19” alloys?)

Four new shock absorbers - only one still working!!

Replaced the flakey driver’s side rear door lock
Replaced both front dash vents (cracked/broken)
Serviced the Haldex
New power steering fluid
New front transfer case oil
Painted the front grill, side vents and boot handle what I thought was satin but it’s more gloss
Fixed the sluggish drivers electric window
Purchased a roof pod so there’s a bit more storage on trips

I’ll update with more pics and details of some of the work…

Not a common colour in the UK, which is a shame as it suits the car.

Yup, shocks, springs and bushes on my list too, along with giving the sub-frame a good clean and treatment to make sure I don't join the rotten subframe club.

And like you, also waiting for warmer, dryer weather! Current driveway contents:
2021 V60 Cross Country B5
2009 FL2 dog bus and shooting wagon

On Order: 2023 Fisker Ocean Ultra - deposit paid.

Had a bit of fun with a misfire and went down a bit of a rabbit hole in sorting it out. A code reader helps!
Appears to have been down to suspect wiring on the MAF sensor and a loose connector on the throttle body.

In sorting this out, I replaced:

Fuel filter which I don't think had been done for some time
Air filter which was badly clogged (can't believe I missed this! 25k kms and it's knackered) - fitted a K&N filter so I can service it
MAF sensor connector and wiring which looked suspect
    MAF sensor
    Crank position sensor

The sensors I bought secondhand so I have spares in the glovebox.

There were a bunch of codes which were presumably historical and I've been left with these ones:
    B1026 Steering column lock
    B10A2 Crash input
U0156 Info Centre lost comms - down to the aftermarket stereo I have I think
    B12CA Start/stop status indicator

Fingers crossed, the misfire is gone...

My first FL2, a 59 plate over specced XS was in Ipanema Sand…

A fine colour indeed.

Now it's looking to be fixed, it's time to break it again...

- get it serviced by the local Bosch gurus - a check for codes other issues
- fit an LED lightbar
- fit sound deadening to the doors
- polish the headlights to remove the discolouration and crazing
- remove the inlet manifold to remove the swirl flaps and clean it up now I've blanked the EGR
- transmission fluid flush and filter if the latter is reasonably accessible
- change the Haldex filter and oil - did it recently but want to flush out all the grot again
- fit the PTU for a drain plug so the oil can be drained
- drop the fuel tank if the dodgy fuel gauge shows itself again...

Time-serts are great for a threaded insert into soft material (have this size) if I can get the right length for the thickness of the casing: https://www.mechanicstoolsandbits.com/time...r-kit.html

Use tapping fluid when tapping holes. Far less likely to break a tap & you get a cleaner thread. Also back turn the tap a bit every half turn. Best to use a tapping handle. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
