United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Zermatt Silver

New update for anyone who has not lost the will to live with this fault.

Garage just called.
Have re-checked all the fuel rail pressures and specifications all OK.
Checked complete fuel system found no fault.
On a complete wim, decided to change the high pressure fuel pump to see what would happen.
They say the engine now starts first time every time but will leave it over night and try in the morning.
I am still not sure. If it was scavenging for fuel on start up, surly that would have been a leak back from another component.

Car now has 4 new injectors and a high pressure fuel pump at only 67400 miles. Exclamation

We shall see.

In response to Airportech.
The battery that I fitted was a Bosch S5A11 AGM 80AH with 800CCA
Hope that helps. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

Good news. Sounds like a fix.

When you get it back could you do a pressure check on the cold engine fuel rail for me please, just wondering if it's still zero after the fix.

Hi Chips

If it's fixed I'll be glad to do that.

But don't hold your breath. Don't know if it is a fix yet.
I'm not as optimistic as I once was. Yawn Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

It's the classic case of an older car with fewer miles is not necessarily better than one with high miles.
These components fail - but never at any set mileage unfortunately.

Can't agree with that comment.
Car never does short runs and has the equivalent of a B service every year regardless of mileage. All the running gear has also had oil changes.
Fuel system gets occasion purge also.
What more can I do. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

No still not fixed.
I have asked them to remove the high pressure fuel pump and refit the original as it made no difference. I tried to tell them that before they changed it, but they are the experts.
I have given them to the end of the week to either fix it or return it.

Does anyone know of a specialist in the northeast who can actually diagnose diesel engines without just throwing random parts at it.
They have had the car for eight weeks now. Evil or Very Mad Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

Sorry to hear that it is not fixed yet.

As it must be costing money with all this work, is it worth trying to contact Land Rover Technical Support Directly?

This is their quoted SV & Classic Help Line

Hi Ian
Thanks for the reply.
I could give that a try. However I asked the garage manager if it was worth contacting Landrover and he said that they are only interested in assisting with vehicles still under manufacturers warranty. Now don't forget that this is an approved Landrover service center and they can't get help.
But I'll give it a go, what have I got to loose.

Quick edit....... Message sent to Landrover, I await a reply. Whistle Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

Timing belt changed by me approx 3 years ago, never been an issue. However the garage has checked, just to rule it out.
Result ..... Spot on still. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
