Lucky or what

So I replaced the cambelt and water pump yesterday - no big issues.
Until:
Whilst unbolting the flywheel locking tool from above (for those that dont know - you remove the starter motor and the device locks into the flywheel teeth) I let go of one of the 17mm nuts and it rolled across my upturned palm and into the hole where the starter motor had been, into the bell housing and disappeared out of sight. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

In the past that would require the gearbox off.

But a friend lent me a cheapo chinese wifi endoscope and after an hour I was able to find the nut; about a foot down into the bellhousing

and very slowly lift it out with a magnet.

Lucky or what ! You could have heard my shout of joy miles away. Very Happy Very Happy Jules

Here is the scope

I had one similar; it connected directly to my old android phone but it wont work with the later versions of the Android OS.
However my mates 'scope is wifi which its much easier to use as you can set the phone down and then straighten out the scope to remove axial torque so that it doesnt twist when you change grip.
I think he bought it from amazon a year or so ago.
The app is called "Wifi_check" for some reason. Jules

like this one

Unlike a much expensive scope you have no remote control of the tip direction. But any pre-bend is retained until it hits something to alter the bend. Jules

I'm going to get one of those scopes, to check out pistons, cylinders, and valves so I can make informed decisions before putting money into high-mileage cars. It's a new thing with piston airplane engines too, but for reasons other than strictly money...

Looks okay, could well come in handy,
£42 for the auto focus!
I wonder if it's any better than the £33 one,
I like the "not afraid of dark" bit Laughing DAVE.

I have used my endoscope for looking for the leaks and cables in plaster board ceilings and walls Jules
