Raising suspension

Raising the suspension seems like a good idea. Bravia Pitts is producing spacers - Powerful UK have done a series on fitting them.
Question is what are the down sides? Real life experience welcomed please. What is impact on on road handling? CVR joints etc? Many thanks!

I don't know it if you are considering fitting it yourself. I did the rear shocks a few weeks back and when you push the axel down to get the new strut assembly in it pops out of the diff. I got it back in but I noticed that Bevis Pitts and powerfuluk also had this problem but worse because the axel has to go down even further with the lift kit. In the case of powerfuluk they had to rebuild the bearings. So I decided not to go there. [/b]

Before you start fiddling around with suspension. Put 17" rims on the car if you don't have them, with 245/70 tyres. Then go from there.

It's simply dumb to raise the suspension & still have small tyres. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

They would make the FL2 wider, not taller & likely illegal as well without wider wheel arches - ISTR that wheels & tyres are required to not stick out beyond the body? 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 Manual Dynamic

I've got 30mm wheel spacers fitted and that is the very maximum I would go for.
I've had my lift kit fitted for 2 1/2 years now and have experienced no problems during that time.
Wheels are 18" Evoque with 265/60/18 AT tyres.

Why do you think it’s a good idea?
Where are you going to drive it?

They are a good idea if you are driving on Australian beaches. With the lift the car will push less sand, make for a better drive and easier cleanup afterwards. The sand is pushed into everywhere! I probably wont go on a beach again until I've done it. I need to work on the suspension again when everything else is done.

Some beaches in Australia, the sand is like concrete. Others, the sand is so aerated it is a lost cause.

The smaller the rims & larger diameter the tyres, the more you can let the tyres down to increase your footprint. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

OP is in Northumberland UK, so is unlikely to be driving on Australian beaches.

On most of the beaches where I live, at least some of the time you are forced to drive in the wheel tracks of other vehicles. Sand humps naturally build up between the wheel tracks. When you have a relatively low clearance the undercarriage is constantly knocking the top off the hump between the wheel tracks that most others can clear. Its soft sand, but it pushes up into all sorts of areas you don't want sand and is a Censored to get out.

The FL2 handles it, but it would be more comfortable with a lift kit.

If you really want a capable vehicle a Freelander is not the ideal choice.
