Drive slower & you will increase range. 140kph uses about twice 90kph.

Outback Australia there are no fuel stations so you have to be careful. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Really hope this is sorted by next weekend - nipping down to my Mums. 1600 miles each way, with only 320 mile range I am going to need to fill up 5 times on the way down. Granted driving through France and Spain shouldn't be a problem, but I will be on fumes by the time I get to Dover.

Would it help if you went via Britany ferries from Portsmouth?
you would be clear of the south east, 50 miles less in the UK
and dock at Le Havre, you may even save 100+ miles on the other side too. DAVE.

Problem is the lack of time. Going with my brother and neither of us get paid for holidays. The plan is set off early on Saturday and be in Mojacar Sunday. Spend a few of days with Mum, then nip back by the following weekend.

Flying would obviously be quicker and cheaper, but for two petrol heads misses the point. The DS has a 6'7" load bed so one can kip while the other drives. Biggest problem is choice of music, I obviously have a far better taste than our kid - Rock vs Motown. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Apparently this whole fuel shortage business has been caused by us each buying an extra 5 litres of fuel. The average fill up is generally about 25 litres and now it's gone up to about 30. That represents a 20% increase which the system can't cope with. At least I have an excuse not to cut the lawn now. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Having heard of someone locally that had spent out £1:79 to refuel, I'd not have thought that could have been beaten. But no, how wrong I was.
Seems there was a queue locally, delayed by a woman complaining the gun wasn't working. Someone went to assist only to find she'd already got a full tank when she pulled on to the forecourt. Not sure whether to Rolling with laughter or Censored

I reckon Motown would be more fuel efficient Wink

Apparently the national grid might not be able to cope with demand this winter. I'm going to turn all my heaters on now while there is electricity to be had. Sheep

Your probably right PRadd,
as soon as the bbc reported how lack of drivers will lead to shortages at the shelves and pumps,
we ended up with a problem,
which wasn't there in the proceeding months. Censored DAVE.

I do believe you'll be in luck, been out this morning and seen filling stations
with minimum queuing for petrol and diesel. so I would reckon as Dover is a main
route in/out of the country the fuel supply would be better
than the pointy bit of Kent that doesn't go anywhere. Thumbs Up DAVE.

What about the Insulate Britain mob, who blockaded the Port of Dover last week or two? Dieppe to Newhaven might work better for people?

This is a friendly almost family forum so i can't give my views on the Censored from insulate Britain. But if I had insulation I would rip it out as a result of their actions.

House construction apparently means that installing insulation = new roof in a few years. Shocked Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Yes, those "so called" (to coin a really annoying phrase from the BBC) eco warriors are doing a great deal of damage to the environmental argument IMHO. Censored 's indeed Rolling Eyes

I believe the initial reports in the media of an impending fuel crisis (read self fulfilling prophecy) were based on a memo from BP to Gov't relating to issues at around 4 or 5 forecourts (around that number) - which were entirely down to the fact that BP, instead of furloughing drivers, made some redundant... Then guess what, they had found other jobs when BP went back to them to re-employ - hardly the fault of anyone but BP Shocked

I know it is popular in some circles to blame the Gov't for everything - particularly Boris, but if I recall at the last election there was not a credible alternative (demonstrated by the results of the vote, rather than me being a paid up flag waver for Boris (which I most assuredly am NOT)), not a dissimilar scenario to the Trump/Clinton farce in the US - faced with a poor choice between bad & worse what should we expect? 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 Manual Dynamic
