Hard Reset

My vehicle would not start again the other morning. Fob placed in dock, lights etc on dashboard light up, press start button and nothing. This happened back in January, only that time, no lights etc showed up. I contacted the RAC and the patrolman, after checking a few things, managed to get it started. He set that he had done a 'Hard Reset'. My vehicle is now parked outside my house, and very soon, will be traded in for another vehicle (sadly, not another Land Rover)
Does anyone know what he did for the 'Hard Reset', incase it goes again between now and when I trade it in? I meant to ask the patrolman but forgot.

Thanks.

Thanks. I think he did something with the battery. I couldn't see as it was peeing down with rain and I took shelter in a shop doorway.

Disconnect battery for half an hour or remove cables and hold together for 30 seconds should do it I think I’ve heard things about holding the cables together sometimes affecting resistors or capacitors or something.

Some capacitors (the electrolytic type) are chemically similar to a battery and will retain a charge for a while once power is removed, and that charge can provide enough voltage to keep computer volatile memory alive.

By waiting a long period, it allows that charge to bleed off. Or touching the leads together provides a current path for the charge to instantly bleed off.

People who work on powerful, specialized electronics have to be careful because big capacitors can be dangerous... I think even some old-style TV sets could shock you when unplugged if you touched the wrong thing.

I haven't (as yet) had to try a hard reset. My vehicle is sitting outside my house, after having the RAC guy perform a hard reset on it, and then I drove it straight home. It might start or might not. The RAC guy said something about the 'CPU'? possibly not recognising my 'key' in the dock, and this is why he did the hard reset. Should my vehicle not start, I'm hoping that I can do a hard reset and this will get it going again.
What's people's view on this?

Did he even read some stored codes with a tester ? Or he did the hard reset as he arrived . How long was the reset ?

He checked the starter motor first to see if that had seized. When I told him about the previous time when nothing showed up on the dashboard, he then did the reset, which I think only took him a few minutes. I can only presume that should I get this problem again when trying to start the vehicle, I can do a reset and get it goingl

Does the dash mileage reset to zero? if it does search LTB00093 it a software update for the early FL2 which caused a non start and the dash resets to zero - no fault codes.

The dash mileage doe not reset itself to zero.

I've just been looking at the RAC fault report and the patrolman has written:
suspect, body control module unsynchronized

Yep the quote facility isn’t available on last post. I don’t think you need it as you can reply directly to the last post. You only need to ‘quote’ if referring to an earlier post.
