My trade in price seems to be going up (not down) with time

I have noticed that over the last month or so that my FL2 'trade in' price, as indicated in my Autotrader account, is gradually going up.

This is in spite of me gradually upping my mileage reading, as I travel around, it now has a value of £14910, up from £13k+ a little while ago.

Has anyone else noticed this phenomenon? FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 74k+ miles) (MY2015)

Simple explanation, nobody’s buying new cars, new car sales are @ their lowest for 21yrs & there is now a supply & demand issue with used cars, once this virus has passed people will have confidence again & will go out & buy new cars then the used car market will shrink again.

The Autotrader valuation is based on "quote" -
"Over half a million ads on Auto Trader and dealer websites
Price data from major car auctions
Information on fleet and leasing disposal prices"
As always, the data from asking prices does not reflect what they actually sold for.
When I was looking, I found Parkers to be more accurate and consistant + you find out which options increase the cars value.
Happy to report that the autotrader valuation for mine has also gone up, beyond what I paid for it Very Happy Still not selling it though!

United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e HSE Manual Barolo Black

Here is my post from this thread back in February.

https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic36571.html

Having read this thread I thought, I'll get a valuation on Autotrader for my car.

2010 TD 4 HSE 154k. Autotrader valuation, private sale £3850 / px £2790.

I bought the car last August (2020), at what I thought was a good price £4500, considering that it needed the 10 year service doing. I couldn't find anything at a better price \ condition at that time.

However I then did a specific search for 2010 HSE TD4 on Autotrader.

Cheapest matching car on Autotrader 2010 HSE 134k miles £5750

Most expensive 2010 HSE 65k £12599.

I don't think I would be putting much credence in the Autotrader valuations.

According to MSN (appreciating the level of faith in and accuracy of their reporting does vary!)

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/cars/news/used-c...ailsignout

A pandemic-fuelled increase in used car demand continued in March with prices rising for the 12th consecutive month.
Although diesel is no longer favoured in the new car market, it remains a favoured fuel in the used car marketplace, with average prices last month growing 8.9 percent

Hi,
the figures and quotes only become "Real" if you can sell and either run something else until next year Question
when prices drop back Question
or buy new, although are there less discounts about
if you buy another s/h car its likely to be at a premium price as well as the one you sell Rolling Eyes

I know sell the cars and use the push bike and bus until prices drop Shocked

Thumbs Up .
my first ever FL2 and I did keep it longer than most other cars!
But its now gone way up Norf

We were going to sell Gills MG3 last summer - 3 years old and 7k on the clock - WeBuyAnyCar value was £3800 - not enough to cover the finance so we kept it.
2 weeks ago I contacted them again, value was £4,800 - so I sold it, they actually gave me £4,450

the car was a year older and an additional 200 miles.
So yes 2nd hand car values are climbing. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner
