To late, I already bite the bullet and order a new radiator Big Cry I order a TYC brand.

In fact, I just got the UPS alert that the package is at my forwarder.

I will take photos during the installation and report back Wink

Hey guys! Thanks for the assistance. I got the sob out and in
in around 6-7 painless hours😤 not quite painless...those plugs
we're a nightmare, but only had two curse out episodes with
dad. The temp gauge was reading low and no heat. Figured
she was stuck open. Sure was. Busted right off the hinge.
thing.. forgive my less than educated mechanic talk.
With several fire breaks and the help of my little ass hands
we conquered the intake manifold. Filled coolant waited for
some lovely heat in this montana winter (I've survived on the
heated seats🙌). No heat...full hour drive home..no heat.
😔t. Gave up for a day then filled coolant back up. Guess what!
Heat!!!!!! So thankful!

To bleed the cooling system I drive up a steep hill with the heater set on high.


I suspect that you have done that by now

Sorry to jump on this thread - Im trying to replace this pipe. Do you think it will be possible without taking the inlet manifold off. Its the circlip style thing on the right that i cant see how to get off on the right of the T pipe (not the grey ring - the other side) without a huge dismantling job.... '07 i6 Petrol XS

Heydrivebyabuser,

I have a 2008 XC90 3.2 AWD. I will say that hose it will be easier to replace from under the car. But Let's wait for Paul to jump here and hear his advise.

Here are several photos of my engine bay without the intake manifold so you can see if you can reach that hose from under the car.

The hose will be more difficult to remove if you don’t remove the intake tube.

As for the intake manifold, you should be able to change this hose without removing the manifold.

You can see the hose in the picture that Isaac posted.

And I agree that you will likely need to get under the engine at some point.


If yo are looking for a recommendation I would change this hose when you change the serpentine belt and the pulleys (including the clutched drive pulley)

With the AC compressor removed and set aside you will have more room.

The gray latch needs to be rotated so that the hose can be removed.

Thanks Paul - I am nearly there with this..... and Happy new year too! It's all a bit muted in London at the moment.

The Grey twist clip thing I can get to - Its the other side of the T that I'm struggling with. The black side for want of a better description. It attaches with a metal ring that i cant shift for love nor money with the tight access.

You can replace the hose that connects to the radiator if you cannot separate the hoses.

The hose you are trying to remove is LR007413

The silver spring clip can be popped completely off and then you will need to pull straight off

Just got the intake manifold off/out. What a pig of a job!
We use salt on our roads in winter here (England) and it has destroyed almost every fastener I came to. I have a huge list of bolts and screws to order now, and severe small drill bits to replace having ruined mine drilling out siezed and snapped bolts.
I would not recommend this job to anyone without another means of transport.

Update.
I got cocky....
Having drilled out some bolts and replaced some connectors I thought "why not replace the rusty screws holding the butterfly valves into the intake manifold?" IDIOT! now I have 4 steel screws to remove from a very expensive plastic manifold Laughing Crying or Very sad

Craig,

If I were in your position and removing the screws from the plastic manifold and if doing so destroyed the threads but didn't crack the manifold.

I would do the following.

1. Drill the hole out to remove the remaining threads

2. Use a Bolt, two Washers and Nut (and Loctite) to hold the throttle to the manifold


And the most important part tell everyone

I upgraded my throttle fasteners by eliminating screws into plastic and replacing with a proper nut and bolt!!!


It looks like there is room to do this upgrade.

The nut and bolt fix on the throttle body will definitely be happening.
I've ordered a second-hand manifold from the US this evening. I ruined mine trying to drill out the old screws.
While I'm waiting for it to arrive I'll give the front of the block and engine bay a good clean and coat everything with corrosion inhibitor.

I REALLY done ever want to have to remove the intake manifesto EVER again. Should I replace the alternator and coupler belt/sleeve thing while I'm in here? How often do alternators and/or those odd little coupler things fail?
