brake controler

I fitted a red arc controller to my 09 fl2 and 99 disco using the instructions supplied ,the controller I use is the one with the remote setting switch so that the brake unit is under the seat .power comes directly from the battery using a self resetting circuit breaker and the signal from the brake switch , I used the 12s (white socket) for the connection to the van and camper as I also use a 12v DC-DC charger on both van and camper but that is a different story . The hardest part of the job is getting the wires into the cab and out again I use existing holes where the loom comes in behind the glove box as I was afraid to drill a hole as there is a lot of boxes and wires there use wire size as per instructions . 12s sockets and plugs are readily available from the UK, try ebay

I have a Haymann Reece hard wired controller. Controller box is mounted in the centre console beside the gear stick and the knobs are in the centre console near the front ciggie socket. My wiring is 7pin round Aussie standard, with the blue wire from the controller going to the standard electric brakes pin. The aux pin (normally black) I have wired for 12v+ using one of the wires provided in the original 12N/12S loom. I put a thread on here about it a while ago.

Note that the UK spec black socket and plug is the same as an AU 7pin socketand plug. So you can keep the superior quality black Land Rover socket.

Personally I would never use a wireless controller. Not reliable enough.

No offence but the braking ECU is hardwired to the A-Frame of the trailer. The wireless part is for adjusting the brake force applied and nothing else, as per your hardwired setup so being wireless doesn’t have any safety concern.
Maybe I’m just a bit more comfortable with keeping up with progress and prefer to not have control boxes and knobs in the vehicle.

I have brakes!

Hi all. I finally applied myself and bought the Elecbrakes module for my caravan.
It's an awesome bit of kit.
It Bluetooths from a phone next to the drivers seat and gives some good feedback regarding voltages on the brakes, auxillary battery feed and tail lights.
The new app version works very well on Android and connects to the module very quickly. You can set up different pre-set programs for different van weights and conditions and change current settings for forward or reverse braking with just a swipe of the screen.

The setup wasn't as easy as just plugging in, I had to make some changes. It can run off the combined brake light and tail light voltages or the auxillary power. First I changed the 12N socket for a standard Aussie 7 pin. I had to remove the Aux power from the 12S to to the new 7 pin for both power to the Elecbrakes but that also extends the Aux into the van for the little fridge. That goes onto Pin2 where the reversing signal normally goes.

The documentation that comes with the Elecbrakes is just rubbish but they are updating it with a lot of changes to accommodate the new app version.

The app won't allow Bluetooth connection to the module and the LR2 audio so I just used an old phone for the brakes.

In all I think the Elecbrakes is just brilliant. The purchase cost is pretty high but as my kids will be using my van that cost is spread over 3 vehicles and is then much less than each car getting a hard wired controller.

Hi guys
Ive recently purchased a FL2 SD4 HSE and it has a Hayman Reece tow bar already fitted The guy who sold it had a LR wiring harness and 2 plugs (white and black) that he never fitted

I was looking at installing it as I had read on another forum that when a Trailer / Caravan is connected it
1. Disabled rear sensors
2. Changes gearing etc for towing??

Not sure about the #2

Has anyone on here heard of it?

Just trying to find the best location to drill a hole for the brake setting pot .

Cant justify the cost of the wireless Electrobrake one

Just picked up our new to the family Freelander 2 yesterday. Plan on fitting a Redarc Tow Pro Elite. Have one in my D4 and it works a treat.....not expecting any problems with a fit to the Freelander.

I put the control dial for mine in the centre console beside the shifter just in front of the acc socket.
