Although my MY14 Metropolis has a built-in Satnav which works quite well, I much prefer my Garmin Nuvi for day-to-day use. It also has all my dozens and dozens of favourite locations - and can be used abroad as well as stand-alone.
However... it doesn't pick up the satellites as well as it did in my old TD4 HSE - and recently this issue seems to have gotten worse. I'm told that this might be caused by the coated & heated windscreen. Can anyone advise of a good work-around for this please? Obviously, I don't want to have to drill holes or make any serious mods to the car.

I run the aerial along the bottom and up the side of the windscreen, the side is clear of the wires so can get a better signal. Common sense isn't very common.

I have mounted my sat-nav in the bottom right-hand corner of my screen. (this is the second FL2 (and sat-nav) that I have used this mount

I worked well there, although I use a link to my mobile phone to pick up traffic and other information for it.

Give it a good charge for 24 hours via a 240v source. https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic36057.html third post, second & third paragraph comments.

If you can't plug it in to 240v, it uses 0.4 amps running via a 12v adaptor as tested with my meter. So you could plug it into the car via a permanent supply for 24 hours (9.6Ah) or at least overnight. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

My thanks for the replies and suggestions.
Having now tried each of the advised methods to no avail, I suspect that it was losing the means of picking up a signal as it won't connect other than occasionally even outside of the car.
Have now bought a new Garmin 'SmartDrive' unit that locked onto the satellites straight away - without having to use any antenna or suchlike. And have downloaded all my precious favourites etc from the Garmin cloud site.

A final post on this topic - after a factory reset, the old unit works perfectly in my wife's Toyota Corolla- but still not in my FL2. So, she has a nice modern Satnav now!
