This set of photos include the original (Very Basic) Range Rover.
It also reminds me of how many other fantastic ideas they had, but failed to invest enough to carry forward.
It includes a picture of my favourite (that I have owned) the Triumph Dolomite Sprint, a 2ltr 16v fast, luxurious, saloon that more than rivalled the BMW 2002.

I had a BMW 2002tii from new, a few years later had the Dolly Sprint......trust me the 02 was a better car, not as luxurious in the old English manner but a better drivers car.

Best BL car......hmmm.......Dolly Sprint, Cooper S......but both so different. Regards

Lovely i6 has now gone, but not me......

Please let me know if anything in my post offends you, as I may wish to offend you again......

I can honestly say, I have never owned a BL vehicle.

Was a Vauxhall man for many years unit I discovered Audi and Mercs. When I owned my own business I bought Land Rover vehicles and have done ever since.

I’m too young to have owned anything from British Leyland. My old man though had an ex British Gas Austin Maestro van.

The bus company I work for still had Leyland Olympians in service when I started though, I quite liked them. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I suppose that the original FL1 (with the Austin Metro petrol engine) was a BL product although it was based on a Honda design I believe. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

I once saw the 'Fastback' stag in Stratford, the only one ever built. Have photos somewhere, was ribbon'd up as the owner's daughter was getting married.

Yes, seen it few times, I've also seen both the 4X4 ones. One was built using an auto car and the other a manual O/D. Both have ABS as well I believe. Tickford also reworked one as well although its locked away somewhere. 2007 TD4 XS The work horse that earns its up keep

Is this the one

It looks very nice, I would have liked to have one. Most likely better than MGB GT?

Firstly I must point out that my info comes from 2 books worth getting if you are interested in the history of Land Rover and/or the Freelander.
Land Rover Freelander - The Complete Story - James Taylor
Land Rover Scrapbook - Mike Gould

As I understand it,
Leading up to the FL1, a concept called the 'Cyclone' was developed by modifying a FWD Honda Shuttle to 4WD, using a simple viscous coupling.
This became Rover Project CB40 (named after the building they were in - Canley Building 40).
Modified 'Maestro' vans were used initially to try out the CB40 running gear.
It was decided to use the 16v K series engine, with raised fully independent suspension and 'anti-kickback' power steering.
The FL1 was nearly called the 'Highlander', this name was unavailable at the time, so 'Freelander' was chosen (in part because the name plate was the same size).

PS Just thought - it may not be too late to ask Father Christmas for one of these books??? FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Best BL car I would say was the TR8. The 6R4 is to trick to really count as a production road car.
