Is it me or are prices jumping?
needed a puncture repair yesterday and the only one near me that was open was
Quick Fit, now I don't use them as a rule.......But at £27
I won't be again,

It's cheaper than a new tyre.

£25 is a normal repair charge.

What are you expecting to pay?

I have to fix tyres myself in the outback, did 3 in 2018, too far from road service, everyone fixes tyres themselves & has 2 spares.

Get a tyre repair kit.

Also a compressor & pointy nose pliers to pull screws & stones out. I've put 3 plugs in someone's tyre to finally seal it.

Get TPMS to be warned of a flat before you destroy a tyre (37, 38, 38, 35 once heated up, 35 was a slow leak)

I was desperate last year and had to call in Quick Fit as I remember it was about that price,there’s a new local part worn place opened does a repair for £10.

Kwik Fit are a bunch of robbing cowboys. Sales driven so don't expect to just go in and get the tyre repaired, if at all. Expect them to tell you the tyre needs replacing, the exhaust needs doing, the tracking will need doing, or the brakes are dangerous and shouldn't be driven until sorted etc, just to try and get more cash from you.
They failed the mrs' car years ago when doing the MOT saying the brakes were dangerous, which I disputed. The Mrs just needed the car back so went ahead with the "repair". They replaced the whole braking system at a phenomenal cost, then phoned her up saying it had failed again - on brakes ! The Manager was never , ever available until we threatened to block the entrance and stay there until we saw him. Finally he appeared and after threats about contacting trading standards and a few choice words, they finally passed it .
We took it somewhere else a year later and it failed - on brakes. The tester said the brakes were so dangerous, it was amazing she never had a fatal accident in it ! Luckily she only used it for short, slow journeys !!

Quite a few independent Tyre fitters near me only charge £12 .

I had my front two wheels Rebalanced this week and was a bit surprised when the bill was £26 . I suppose they do have to outlay for all the equipment in the first place , but it still only took 5 minutes. Think most of their profit comes from punctures balancing and tracking as it’s all labour and very little parts cost ...

Not sticking up for Kwik-Fit at all but £27 does initially sound expensive but carried out correctly to BS AU 159 spec http://www.dexel.co.uk/blog/british-standa...re-repair/ and broken down, included in that £27 there’s vat, the cost of a new valve, balancing of the wheel including the cost of stick-on balancing weights plus the cost of the actual mushroom plug/patch and adhesive. You need a couple of thousand pounds worth of equipment to do it hand and air tools, tyre machine, balancing machine), some premises and don’t forget staff costs. You probably sat in a nice reception area and had a free drink. The gross profit on that job which must take at least 20 minutes was probably between £15-18, net would be a lot less than that. Currently they are doing free puncture repairs for NHS workers.
Alternatively you could go to a corner tyre shop where you can stand in a cold and dirty workshop where they will just ram a piece of sticky string in it, usually without even removing the wheel, let alone remove and inspect the tyre and charge you ten or fifteen quid. I know what I’d choose if I had to pay although I don’t because I have my own equipment.  Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Well last year I paid £16, trouble was yesterday Quick fit were the only ones open.
and no I'm not doing my own repairs been there done that, generally in some very isolated places
but at my age it's a no.

The independent small tyre shops will be cheaper, but as others have said you don't usually
get the comfy chairs and coffee.

The independents will also sometimes fit tyres that you have bought elsewhere if you get to know them.

Kwik Fit are not all bad, as my local, once replaced a valve in a tyre I brought to them for FREE!

On the other hand Halfords charge £45 for their mobile tyre repair service.

Sorry, my last repair was at National Tyres,
but their local is not open for a drop in service,

I have to say, I must be a bit of a mug but I'd happily pay £27 to get a puncture repaired if it was at a time when nowhere else could do it. As someone else said, it's a damn site cheaper than anew tyre and it's £27 for what is really a right pain in the backside.

It's still about the cheapest bit of work you can have done on your car 😁 Learned to drive in 2011.

So, £27 for a puncture repair...

£4.50 of that is VAT

Kwik Fit have an income of £22.50 on that repair

A repair takes around 30 minutes, by the time the centre manager has booked in, dished out the job, car on ramp, wheel off, leak identified etc

Of that £22.50, a new valve, balance weights and repair patch is about £2.50, so now we're down to £20

Out of that £20, the centre manager takes a wage, the mechanic takes a wage, and someone else will have to double check the wheel is correctly torqued

Let's assume they all get paid an average of £10 p/h. In that half hour, they will have earned £15 between them, leaving a £5 profit

From that £5 profit, they have to pay:
Rent
Rates
Business insurance
Electricity/gas
Water charges

Having already paid for, or financing of:
Ramp
Tyre changer
Balancer
Compressor and pressure gauge
Torque wrench/tools etc

So out of your £27, there is actually very, very little profit in repairing it...
