Conundrum

Whilst still in my (late) 50's, I find that the English language has changed beyond comprehension over the last 20 years. Tonight has been no exception.

I have just been watching ITN's coverage of Bristol earlier today, where hundreds of kids have bunked off school today to pay homage to some Pixie from Svenska who is apparently the new Messiah, and wants us all to give up driving anything and live on Lentils for the rest of our days.

For those of you that saw the same bulletin, the irony of one of her "fanatics" being driven to Bristol in, heaven forbid, a PETROL fossil-powered vehicle did make me chuckle, but that aside........

The cameras were panning to all the lazy twa@ts sucking up to the myth, when my eye was drawn to a spotty "Yoof" with a home-made wooden banner, marching behind the picket line, and the wording confused me.

It simply said "Tory scum doesn't love the mandem"

Can anybody please translate what this means for somebody born well before the 2000's, as this is a totally foreign language to me, and I have absolutely no idea what on earth this means? What is a "Mandem" Is it a new terminology for a car? Google simply says that it means "many men".....if that is the case, why didn't they just say that in the first place? Or am I missing something??

Yours sincerely,

At least β€œTory Scum” is easily recognisable from the 70’s & 80’s 😁

Well yes, but the rest of the dialect I have to confess has flummoxed me. Further inept estimations on google reveal it to be Jamaican patois of some derivative.....I'm still none the wiser! Init!!

Urban dictionary says Mandem is from the Latin 'mandemulus' which means a collection of less than reputable characters.
What he had on that placard still doesn't make a lot of sense?

The BBC report I saw was more concerned about the grass of (Bristol) College Green being turned into mud by the protesters. Climate change will have that back to lush in the next month.

I like seeing the underdogs like Greta struggling to get their voice heard, something entertaining about it.

Clarkson made some good sense around this subject in last Sundays paper

Where are the millions of trees gong to come from,?
What wierd and nasty diseases/pests are going to arrive here if we import trees?
What will these wierd and nasty things do to our native trees?
Who the hell is going to plant all theses trees?
Are we allowed plastic sleeves to go round the saplings, as without them its a waste of resources planting them

Ive planted a good few trees in my time, and now they have grown I get to thin the woods out and burn plenty of logs, but i cant be arsed to plant anymore its hard work, and then the maintenance of young trees, ongoing for years, as you need to thin the plantings every year until the best trees are a fair distance from each other. and everything else gone

Can the youths from Bristol come and help?, or would they just camp out on the riverbank and smoke weed, whilst abusing me for using plastic tree covers, and not owning an electric pickup.

An advisor from natural England is coming on Tuesday to tell me how/where to plant more trees and im not looking forward to my bad back, Im sure there will be financial incentives, but Ive already planted trees in the bad corners and poor land areas. approx 3 acres of them.
If some bug arrived on imported trees and killed the trees Ive tended for 30 years, I would be a tad upset. The ash trees are already dropping dead from ash die back At work

It was probably just chance that had on the BBC Internet webpage the thumbnail report of this child (a few years yet until she becomes a young lady) and her claim that the world was on fire juxtapositioned between the thumbnail for the huge amount of flooding in Wales and The West, and the report that someone thinks under 25 year olds should not be sent to prison since their bains have yet to develop. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Where are the trees going to be planted? All the available countryside and open space is rapidly being destroyed by building roads and houses on it - and in the process chopping down all the mature trees that were already there. So the plot is to replace all the trees that are being lost to development - yes that makes good sense but only if you are a politician, dimwit or a climate terrorist.

Perhaps we can get the Greta mob, who selectively choose only the bits of the science they want to believe, to do something useful and plant the trees instead of just gobbing off and causing disruption.

Have you not heard of The Heart of England Forest

https://www.heartofenglandforest.com/

I know a lady who volunteers to plant saplings on the venture.

She has also taken delivery of her first 200 saplings to plant on her farm.

I’ve planted about a dozen trees that were given out free by the Central Scotland Forest Trust - little do they know that there is a little part of the central Scotland forest in the Highlands! Rolling with laughter 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Lol! The Central Scotland Forest Trust used to take a stand at the Royal Highland Show and give out free trees. As a family we needed to go through their stand as individuals to maximise the tree-take! Since the show attracts a world-wide audience, I’m sure they were aware of the risks! 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

We planted on a disused railway line and embankment, then in the pointy bits of triangle ended fields, modern farm machines dont fit into tight corners so might as well fill them with trees.
Some trees in gaps in hedge rows etc etc
more around the chicken sheds to act as a visual barrier and wind break.

I might add most of the trees and covers were free, provided by my landlord at the time. 2000 in 1983, I remember, It was a rare event at the time the Yorkshire post came out to report "farmer plants tree!". there is a picture somewhere of me and my dad posing with saplings and spades.

Any more trees would have to go on expensive productive land, a big ask, there is a lot of talk around airline etc paying farms to plant lots of trees to balance the carbon miles out. all madness At work

Well there is a 'spare runway' at Heathrow currently. Whistle
