Some pretty wonderful beers...……

getting back to the question, Powerful UK have posted a video on You Tube which shows how to access the system/hidden menu on a pre-facelift sat nav system. This may give you some help in resetting the default settings.

Anyone know where the HDD unit is? This is different to the disc drive unit normally found under the drivers seat and I need to dissect it to see if I can get it working.... Very Happy
Many thanks

The saga continues re the Belgium Sat Nav!
I have been in touch with my local LR garage and he has sent me a JLR document - LTB00642v3 - Navigation System Defaults To A Regional Location _ TOPIx
Trouble is i can't seem to load the link.
Anyway the upshot is that i have the permanent issue and the repairs to the sat nav would cost £1178+vat for remanufactured unit or £1882 + vat for new unit. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

I think the Tom Tom is definitely the way to go.
Here is the document:

SITUATION:
A customer may express a concern that the navigation system reverts to a default location
for their region. There are 2 failure modes, either intermittent or permanent as described
below.
• Intermittent
1. After starting the vehicle, the voice notification "Welcome to the [country name]" is
played.
2. On entering the Navigation after start-up, the vehicle icon shows itself in the region
default, for example Belgium. Once GPS signal is acquired the vehicle icon jumps back to
the actual location and the voice notification "Welcome to the [country name]" is played.
3. All other features of the Navigation system work normally.

• Permanent

hardware is fitted to the vehicle select the "Part Information" icon on the Vehicle
Statement Of Health (VSOH) on SDD.

In addition
After starting the vehicle:
-Previous Destination list is unavailable (all items are deleted, button is greyed out).
-In EU, Destination entry by Postcode is unavailable (button is greyed out) .
-Search area changes to region default, example Belgium.
-Current route is removed (deleted) in next ignition cycle.
This version has been created to update the Parts section.
CAUSE:
A software issue or hard fault with the IAM.
Suggested Customer Concern Code - A59.
NOTE:
You must carry out the instruction to download the latest software first, under no
circumstance must a module be ordered or replaced until it has been confirmed that
the software update has not resolved the issue and all of the symptoms for module
replacement are confirmed.
ACTION:

Intermittent - Download new software to the IAM.
Permanent - Replace the IAM.

That’s excellent thank you! It’s also incredibly bad news...sounds like mine has a permanent fault and needs a replacement unit...

Anyone know anyone in SE England who repairs or replaces them?

That's not bad news, that's ridiculous......no fix and it never worked correctly from the get go? I'd do as suggested above and really tell JLR head office that this is unacceptable and likely will result in multiple lawsuits once you post your experience everywhere that let's you.

Someone made the unit for JLR, so the car manufacturer has a path to recourse.

It’s looking like my 2013 HSE has the same problem, the Censored seems to think I’m somewhere in the Netherlands(?).
There is a red line through the “GPS” tag on the screen.
Has anyone managed to sort this problem out?

No we now use Waze on our iPhone… far more reliable!
The sat navs on JLR products really are shocking.. even my 2020 SVR is rubbish! On that I just CarPlay Waze!

Seems to be the way to go.
A bit Censored poor by JLR though
In the interest of maintaining the car as it should be, could I not just fit a sat nav from another Freelander 2? EBay?

I stand to be corrected but i understand the complete module needs replacing and they are both age specific and coded to the car thus you would need someone to re-programme it… thus it was far easier to ignore that one and use our phones!
I tried to get hold of any company who could sell me a second hand one but failed miserably!

That’s another option. Just think it’s bad for Landrover to have this on a relatively modern car and it turns out to be as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike.

I dont bother with the Sat Nav in my 2013 FL2 as its not easy to use and useless anyway. 35 yrs as a Truck driver I stick to good old maps less of a distraction and no silly female voices (apart from the the old boiler in the passenger seat !) 2013 FL2 XS.
