Do tyres have to be JLR fitment?

Probably a painfully obvious question but.. Just checked my tyres in advance of a trip to Scotland, all are a bit low on tread.

Before I order a whole nw set (x4 Wranglers, 235/55/19 is the plan), do they have to be the JLR fitting or will any do, provided they're the correct load/ speed etc?

Thanks in advance

I believe the only rule is Pirelli are standard fit on ALL formula 1 cars.

If you put your Car Reg No into any tyres sellers site, you will get a list of suitable tyres.

Any make of tyre is permissible, as long as it meets the specification in the hand book.

4 new Goodyear Wranglers fitted today. Very happy so far, but the real test will be a trip to Scotland this weekend. Worst wear on the old set was rear left, so the new ones ought to help even the wear and reduce any extra strain on the diff.

You should advise your insurers if the Goodyear Wranglers are not listed by JLR as a "standard tyre".

Wranglers were a standard fit from the factory at one time.

Thanks NJSS, she's booked in for service at LR tomorrow so I'll ask them if they're "standard tyres".

I cant see what the problem is as long as the tyres meet the spec prescribed by JLR.

What does "standard fitment" mean anyway.
My Freelanders have had different tyres on from the factory. Probably just a contractual requirement on the part of JLR who has done a deal with that particular tyre maker at the that time. Jules

Yes, I followed the ratings for size/ load etc (235/55/19 105V). it was just that some tyres came up as "JLR fitting". I wasn't sure if it was an actual fitting thing, or just what the manufacturer recommends/ fits when the vehicle is new.

JLR recommends their own screen wash too but Im a rule breaking rebel and covertly fill it in the dark with any old stuff I buy in a motorfactors, keep that to yourself though! Whistle Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

As long as they meet the specified load rating, speed rating and size in the manual they will be acceptable to insurance companies.

When you see JLR approved/standard fitment it just means the vehicle has been tested by Landrover during development of the vehicle with that particular tyre and the performance of the vehicle will meet JLR standards when fitted.

Don’t worry about it......some people drive around on all sorts of weird fitments and swear by them, just buy a good brand name suitable for the use you will be putting the vehicle to, ie don’t fit knobbly off road tyres if you spend 90% of time on normal roads, conversely don’t fit high performance road bias tyres if your going to go green laning and mud plugging at the weekends.
Thumbs Up Regards

David
