All steering wheel controls are on a LIN so I’d first try reseating the connector for that steering wheel connector.
If that doesn’t work then I suggest diagnostics to pinpoint.
The LIN passes through steering wheel collar so could possibly be bad or worn connection there also. MY15

Thanks for reply. Forgive my ignorance but what’s a LIN . I assume a traditional wired connector? I’m sure you’re right with the connector idea, it being so intermittent. Hasn’t done it for a while until last night. I’ll break it if I try looking at it.! I usually do. I’ll ask garage to look next time it’s in for something else

Not working at all today. Will get garage to have a look next time I'm in. Not confident with taking the steering wheel covers off myself

I’ve recently had a similar problem on my Ford. There are lots of suggestions on the Ford forums but, it turns out a good thump on the switch with the flat of the hand (palm) cures it. Worked for me. Freelander 2 Metropolis. 2014

Oops I did it again

I had this issue back in July 18 and it was took back in to dealer to sort. Lo and behold 16 months later it’s gone again. It was under warranty when it last went in but no longer is, so look forward to “discussing” the payment. I can’t locate the UK TSB formit but have found the North American one which details the “remedy” here https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2016/MC-10105688-9340.pdf Hope that helps if you’re still having problems

Hi

That link won't open, but controls have been OK again for past 2 weeks. I'll just put up with it since the controls work on the head unit. It keeps it interesting to see if its a working day or a non working day Very Happy

Many thanks. I'll give this document to my local Indy next time its in for anything , if it continues. Removing all that malarkey sounds a recipe for disaster in my hands
