England

The half day taster at Eastnor is on their relatively recent purpose built off road track, I've been round there in a Disco Sport and a Freelander quite good but nothing like the paid for day that I did a few years ago in a Defender.

The taster is just that - a taster, but it still takes you to angles and places most people wouldn't dream of taking their own car.

I have just had an email from LR Experience. So I have to get there and then pay £195 to use my own car and fuel and take my own packed lunch then follow a bunch of others and get two cream teas. Somehow I think this is an offer I CAN refuse.

While not as extreme as pay to play sites there are plenty of challenges that would not be accessible to the none paying public. The majority of these routes are on private property and they are also checked to reduce the risk of bramble rash to paintwork. Of course if you want to go off road by yourself you’ll have to walk the route to check for insurmountable obstructions and you won’t have anyone to help recover you if you get stuck in the middle of that ford that you found.

I think that I didn't make myself clear.

It is the 'yet to be announced' NEW Defender that I will express an interest in. (some time in the hopefully near future)
LR were kind enough to send me to Honiton for a free Experience half day, when I asked for info on the New Discovery. Although I was able to use the time to try out the then 'nearly new' Evoque.

I know, from the military, what an OLD Defender drives like.

PS I decided the FL2 suited me better than the Evoque.

i had a complimentary half day at Honiton the other day and very good it was too. Drove a brand new Discovery (158 miles on the clock) on and off road and very impressive it was to, although I could never afford one! Asked about the new Defender, launch is in December , price? starting at about £40000!!! Are they mad? MY 2013 SD GS Auto

I did the Honiton course a couple of years ago with a friend who works on farms and although it was a nice day out we found it a bit tame. It was quite dry when we did it and it seemed to consist of a demonstration of driving around at slow speed with hill descent control on The DS we drove was impressive but hardly challenged by the course but then it's more than you get on the school run (ie the target market) I suppose. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
