United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Stornoway Grey
Tow bar.

Hi.

I’ve managed to find a removable tow bar and electrics for £290 so will be fitting it myself when it arrives.

Only probably going to use to put some bike on a thule rack to take them when we go out. If I can put up with the parking sensors beeping continually when I am I reverse (which won’t be often) when I am using it, do I need to get anything done to the electronics. The electronics coming are 13 pin, and most sites I have read seem to say if I don’t mind the beep and i’m Not putting anything heavy on it, there is nothing I need to do except install it all. 2010 Freelander2 TD4_e GS

As yours is a 2010 I think it will complain about the lights or won't feed the electrics. Sure I read that on here somewhere. It's only the MY12 onwards that don't need any coding.

I think. Learned to drive in 2011.
Bought a Micra - great little car
"Upgraded" to Kia Sportage - hated it
Proper upgrade to FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental

Yes, if it's the proper Land Rover electrics then it will need coding to stop the reverse sensors beeping. Takes five minutes to do if you know someone with the right tool.

Fitted it seems a beast I love it.

£280 inc electrics from just-tow.co.uk

Using an axle stand to hold one end also made it easier.

Didn’t need to remove the black bit of the bumper, which it said but I did some of the screws to just give a bit more flex when wiggling it up in the first place.

Had to drill two holes behind the reflector didn’t realise they were only to get access to two bolts so didn’t need to be so presice.

Bar, tools, and pics below.

I know it will not move very much but that’s very little clearance to the silencer, is it an OEM exhaust or maybe a pattern part? Regards

David

as far as I know the exhaust systems on FL2 are stainless steel from factory so should never need replacing so the back box is most likely to be the original .... unless a previous owner has fitted an i6 twin pipe back box or similar.

its more likely to be the fitment of the tow bar bracket, either manufactured like that or by a slight misalignment of the bar when fitted.

Stainless? If they are they are really $h!t stainless, the back box on my i6 is splitting along the seam and going rusty and the mid section pipes are very corroded, as for thew flange nuts and bolts they look more like mounds rust, no definition as nuts/bolts at all....... Regards

mmmm coming from someone in Looe as in by the coast?

My parents lived in Southport for many years and it was my privilege to repairs the old mans cars, I would NEVER buy a car that had lived by the coast, I got very good at cutting off seized nuts and bolts, drilling out the remnants and heli-coiling. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

It’s been by the coast for three weeks.......so unless the “stainless steel” used by LR is supplied by Kleenex it ain’t the salt air that’s done it Rolling with laughter Regards
